Re: Random - Black Folks Get Married Right?!

• This is so true! You just have to google African American wedding hairstyles and you'll get some good ideas. But when it somes to the bridal magazines there are definitely no black hairstyles. Also check out essence.com they just had a gallery with wedding hairstyles for natural brides. :)

Been like that for years. Shameful right? You would think Essence or Ebony would have picked up the need to represent black weddings in a dedicated way (i.e. new magazine or website). I know there was a black bridal magazine some time back but it never got the circulation it deserved. I don't remember the name. I had also subscribed to Chocolate Brides Magazine which featured members from the website of the same name. Unfortunately the owner fell ill and has not been able to keep everything going.

I know DGW features couples form Munaluchibridal which also has a magazine and webiste that I just realized has a community too! I will have to check it out.

Yeah I enjoyed that website too!

Maybe the AAW Knotties should petition Ebony or Essense to do at least a bridal edition. It can be a once a year special publication. That would be nice!

• Munaluchi is a very nice site but the "community" is kind of inactive, just fyi. But I love the fact that they do feature AA brides! There is a limited amount of info available for Black Brides :/
That is because of two factors. Blacks don't support one another and we do live in a country where the majority rules the media, entertainment, etc. So those two factors alone combined contribute to the void in the Black Community for featuring weddings and such.

So sad.
• I still have a subscription to Brides magazine - in the last 3 issues the only black women in there were bridesmaids somewhere way beyond the background.

I don't know either...it's damn shameful...

Yep and if the plan is to stand around waiting for someone to pay attention to us we will be waiting for a very long time. I suppose too that the media/publishing world feel there is no demand for publications dedicated to AA brides. That goes to the perception that marriage in the black community is low priority. I think what we need is a blog/board similar to Curly Nikki's that brings attention to the subject matter. Curly Nikki has caused quite a stir and brought lots of publicity for natural hair. Now look at how many natural hair products are popping up in stores like Target from companies like Revlon, etc. that you would NEVER have seen just a few years ago. No one paid attention to our natural hair needs until just recently.

I am part of another board called www.brownandbridal.com. It actually started off as an offshoot for TK. It was on and popping at first then slowly died down. Now there is little to no traffic on the site. It really is a shame. I log on every now and then hoping to see a pick up in activity but to no avail.

I did check our Munalchi's forums and yes it is very dull there. I saw posts that look to be made by the moderator that were 45 days old with no responses or at best one.

• don't get me started V. non white brides period. if the main board represents brides, all brides, why would any cultural offshoot boards exist? AA, Asian, Latino, etc.? it's not just black brides and it's not just weddings. My bff and I were talking about this last week. She was saying that back in the days when we wore stockings to work, it took her longer than it should've to figure out that *nude* panty hose didn't apply to her.
