Inspiration for Reception Centerpieces

Ladies I already have my wedding theme together, it's "A SOULFUL KIND OF LOVE". Our wedding and reception is very culture based, "AA" culture based that is. So we are sticking to the soul theme and AA tradition tye of thing.

Soul Food, Soul Music, table tent cards that represent AA culture etc... I don't want to stick to the usual flowers etc... and I am not a big flower person anyway. What other type of things are kind of African American tradition? I can't think of anything.

what about having your tables represent famous AA couples (Prez Obama & First Lady Michelle; Ruby D & Ozzy; Will & Jada; Bill & Camilla Cosby; Denzel & Paula Washington, etc.)

you could put their pics in a frame and accent the CP w/small votive candles and rose petals...sorta like this pic...HTH!

You could display vintage AA records at each table as a centerpiece. Almost like this, but the records don't have to be be bent at the edges and they would all be AA artists.

Oh my goodness those are both really nice ideas and I love it. Wow I really like the photo idea. That is really noteworthy price wise and funky I love it.

The records is a great idea too but I am trying to think how I can doll them up a bit to make them work for a center piece. I have some work to do on this idea but it's great also. I am going to try them out this weekend and take a few pics to share.

I like the vintage album idea too..my FI is an audio engineer by trade and loves to go crate digging for old records, so I'd love to tie that in somehow, but haven't figured it out yet since our decor and venue is more on the formal side..

Both are great ideas.  When my Aunt got married a few years ago, they focused on jumping the broom. Her favors were little broom magnets and her centerpieces were brooms. I'll see if I can find a pic to post, but it was very beautiful and unique.
