NWR: Thyroid disorder

Hello Ladies...last week I went to my PCP with a complaint of loosing weight too rapidly...who complains about that right? LOL Well, I knew I was working out but I know my body and my body doesn't loose that much weight in that short amount of time. Immediately after feeling my thyroid, she said that it was enlarged and ordered blood work. Blood tests yesterday confirmed that I have hyperthyroidism. Oh I guess I should also mention that my mom had the same issue, hence, I wasn't surprised at the diagnosis. I go in for an ultrasound on Monday and I have an appointment with an endocrinologist on Sept 27th (my 30th bday).

First, I just want to say it's amazing the timing of things in life! I get married a month from today and so the first thing I started to worry about is how I would look on my wedding day. I need to get treatment ASAP! so I wouldn't look a hot mess on my wedding day. But as I am sitting here not feeling well, I realize that the priority right now wedding or not is to be better! I know that this is nothing but the devil and I will overcome! But we get so caught up and then bam all of a sudden we are reminded of life...:-)

Secondly, I wanted to know if any of you have faced this issue. It seems that the opposite, hypothyroidism is more common. I was wondering if anyone has had the radioactive iodine treatment? If anyone did an alternative treatment? Natural remedies?

Just reaching out to my knottie sisters..
Anniversary

  • My sons father had that. he took those radioactive pills. The boy couldn't be by him when he was on the treatment pill so you'll probly want to figure out temporary sleeping arrangements if you and fiance are living with eachother. Also, they couldn't share food/drinks. Unfortunately for healths sake I just kept the boy (then about 5years old) from him for a month. What questions you want me to ask him?

</div><div>Yes I read about the fact that you can't be around others or share food etc after taking the radioactive pills. How long were the restrictions for? And how soon did he feel better after taking the pills? Did he also have the same symptoms I have, weight loss, tiredness, goiter?</div>

  • Ok, i talked to him and this is what he said (stay with me it might get jumbled)

he was given the 2 options to take the radiation pill or the regular medicine. he took the radiation pill to just kill the thyroid in hindsight he said he would have took the other option. better to have something working (halfass) than nothing at all. he only took radiation pill once. he said the he had to make sure nobody used his bathroom and he can't remember how long he was "quaranteened" but remembers taking a trip to michigan in the same week he just stayed away from pregnant women and children. He said it took 6 weeks to get used to medication and it screws with your digestive system. and causes a chemical imbalance.
