I think our cake ended up to be $385 or somewhere near that.

$1600 seems ridiculous - how many guests are you having?

Wow! The cake is beautiful! How many people are you serving?

I had about 140 servings, 4-tier fondant covered cake with 2 flavors (champange cake with vanilla buttercream and fresh strawberries and dark chocolate cake with expresso, caramel, and vanilla buttercreams) for about $800. Design is in my bio but it wasn't as detailed as yours. This was way over other quotes but her cakes are DELICIOUS and she's very popular.

My cake is enough for 120 people and it's not as intricately designed as yours, but I sitll think $1600 is too much.  Glad you're not going to pay that!  :)

That sounds like a lot. Wedding cakes are expensive but that price that they quoted you is a little much lol. Me and my FI decided to do a cupcake cake instead of a tradition wedding cake because of the quotes we were getting. For 150 cupcakes plus a mini cake for the top, we're only paying $115. Here's a pic of the cake we're getting...except the cupcakes will be navy blue and white instead of pink and green.

The cake is gorgeous but $1600 is alot! FI and I are doing cupcakes I didn't get a  quote yet but I know that I don't want to spend no more than $300 (for 200 guests).

$1600 is definitely high - but then again, four tiers of fondant will definitely cost you.  Have you asked them what the price would be with regular frosting instead of fondant?

We're having about 100-125 guest & our wedding is in Indianapolis. We're paying $3 per slice for buttercream icing with the choice of about 15-20 fillings.

We had a 3-tier cake (and sheet cakes) for 175 people with 3 different flavors for a little less than $700. That cake is beautiful, but $1600 is crazy. Good luck in your search. Maybe after getting other price quotes, you can negotiate them down.

We are having a 3 tier, 4 layer cake with each tier being a different flavor with various fillings.  We are paying $305.  $1600 is expensive but fondant is more expensive.

Currently we are between 2 people. My aunt used to be a chef and used to make wedding cakes all the time and she would do my cake for free as a wedding gift, but it depends on what is going on with her in the moment.
A guy my mom works with makes wedding cakes just for fun and I am going to sit down with him to talk about it. It will be no higher than $200.

I don't know because our cake comes with the package for our venue. We get to go to the bakery to work out the details. I think if I add anything extra they charge me for it

$1600 is too much.  we researched a place locally.  a 3-tier cake that feeds 100 people was $230, including delivery and set-up. we're going with two cakes made by a local baker and FI is making a black cake.

Our cake is $435 3-tiers for 125 people.  I think $1600 is a bit much, but the cake is beautiful.

We are paying about 600 for a four tier cake to feed 150 people.  1600?!? i would look elsewhere

I agree with PPs, $1600 sounds like a lot, but it is a beautiful cake.  Our cake is a 3 tier cake, I'm not sure how much it costs because it is included with the catering, but our catering price for 150 people is a little more than double the price of your cake

Our cake is $250 & that includes delivery and set up. It serves about 80 guests but we also have a cake that comes with our venue as well. I agree with pp's $1600 is way too much! Hope you find a better price ;-)

We paid $300 for a 3 tier cake for 100 people. We had buttercream frosting, but I'm sure fondant wouldn't have made that big of a difference. Good luck finding a better quote.

We had a 3 tier cake with fondant, though the size was adequate to feed way more people (plenty of leftover cake) the cost was 280 we kept the top tier for our anniversary and still had the whole bottom layer left over afterwards, considering we also had a grooms cake which we still had 3 quarters of afterwards as well.

From what I was told when going over my cake details with various bakeries and planners was the average cost of cakes run 3.50 to 8.00 per slice per person.  Which is usually how they decide their cost.  I would try to find someone who would work in between those parameters like $5 per person etc.  Good Luck!

Is your quote from a high profile bakery?  If so, try a less high profile bakery and ask about options for the detail of the cake.  I know colored icing on buttercream has the same look with less cost.  FI and I opted to use colored icing instead of rolled icing on our cake..it costs less and the execution will be the same...I'll post pics after 10.3.10!  LOL

I know  we  are not paying that. we  ask that  the  cake  be  in butter creme  this  is  what he  said
got the quote back from bakery what  do you think  a bit much?
16x12x10x8 and each tier is six inches in height.  My standards are four inches but you truly need the additional two inches to have the painting done on the cake.

Visually this cake would serve at least 250 guests.  There are two options with this design,

    1. Have the entire cake presentation be decorated Styrofoam and then there would be a section to cut in the bottom for pictures. I would have your anniversary topper boxed to be taken home that evening. Then I would create cake to serve 150 guests to be cut in the back of the house.

The starting price for this presentation would be:

Decorated faux wedding cake = $500.00
Butter cream iced cake to be cut and served from the back based on 150 guests = $412.50
Delivery and set up = $65.00
    Sales tax 7% = $68.43

Total starting price for this cake option = $1045.93

    2. Have the bottom tier and the third tier down (16x10) be real and the 12x8 be decorated Styrofoam to serve 150 guests.

The starting price for this fondant covered presentation would be:

Cake to serve 150 guests (4 layers of cake and three layers of filling) per tier = $1162.50
Custom hand painting on the cake tiers = $150.00

Custom hand painting on the cake tiers = $150.00
    Decorated Styrofoam tiers = $120.00
Delivery and set up = $65.00
    Sales tax 7% = $104.83

Total starting price for this presentation = $1602.33
