King County Licensing

I have a couple of questions on obtaining a marriage license for King County.  I know there is a 3 day waiting period and the license is only valid for 60 days.   My questions are:

1) Has anybody applied by mail?  I see that as an option and that may be more convenient than finding time to go in person.

2) If you went in person how long did it take?  Is this something that can be done over a lunch hour or are there long waits like at the DMV.

It might depend if you are getting married at a popular time of the year or not.  I got married in May, and got the WL with DH in April.  We went at 5:45 pm, and there was definitely a line.

  • We are getting married in early August so will need the license in June/July timeframe so I am assuming it will be rather busy.   I travel quite a bit for work and already know of 3 weeks that I will be travelling during the 60 day window.

</div><div>1) Not sure. did ours in person</div><div>
</div><div>2) We were married in July and went to the Kent location around 1pm on a Wednesday. (not sure why I recall all the fine details). There was only one other couple. In and out in 30 minutes. Bring cash or local check. They wouldn't accept our Virginia check.
