cakes

I saw a while ago... before xmas I think(?)... a picture on the cover of a magazine of a wedding cake.  It was beautiful!  I didn't get to read the article, but the cake looked like someone had sprinkled a bunch of little teeny-tiny crystals (maybe sugar or something) all over it.  Does anyone remember a magazine cover like that?  TIA! :)

sooooo..... I couldn't find the actual cover that I was looking for to figure out what the technique I am looking for is called.... BUT!  I did a wonderful google search (I *heart* Google!) and found pictures of what I am looking for! =D

Does anyone know the 'technical' term for this sort of wedding cake 'decor'...?

The cakes I've seen with that I think are coated in large sugar crystals.  I'd ask your baker - show them the pic, I'm sure they know what it is.

Just show them the picture. They can easily get sugar like that in many colors in either a larger size or a super-fine size.

Agree with KST. I did something similar to that style for my cake. It's pretty common actually. Any baker will know what you are talking about with a picture ;)
