Henna question

I asked my BMs if they'd like to do mehndi with me for the wedding, and my MOH said that although she'd love to, she doesn't want to go to work with it on Monday (she's an accountant; she says they are pretty square). Is there any way to make it less "permanent"? I had a trial last Thursday and I've already been able to get most of it off (as of Monday-Tuesday ish), but maybe my skin just doesn't take very well to it. I obviously can't assume that's the case for her.

Mine took FOREVER to come off.  But I had gotten it done late afternoon, did the whole routine of sugar/lemon and slept with it on.  Then I also applied baby oil (which also helps it to set more).  So, if your MOH wants to do it, I'd suggest only leaving it on for a short amount of time and not doing any of the extras to make the color darker.  And scrub, scrub scrub!  There's not guarantee that it'll work, because it depends on her skin and how it picks up the color, but she would likely be able to get most of it off.

Good point Meghana; I only left mine on for about 3 hours after I got my trial done, AND I washed it off with water which the girl had told me not to do. It came off from the back of my hand much easier than my palms; perhaps we could do it early in the week, and do only the back of her hands. What's the lemon and sugar routine?

the back of the hand comes off much easier.  I think because of the heat of your palm, that's why it stays on longer.  But the reason artists will usually do thicker work on the back of the hand is because it doesn't take color as well, especially if you have darker skin.  The back of my hand was the first to go...the palm stayed on much longer.  In order to have the color set usually people will do a route of sugar and lemon. Basically just take some lemon juice and mix it with sugar.  Since you can't touch anything someone else will have to do it for you.  You take a cotton ball and dab the mixture all over the henna to moisten it.  And you should keep repeating it every hour or so, as it dries.   I had my henna done around 4:00...it was finished by 6:00.  And for about every hour ot two until I went to bed, one of my aunties put the sugar/lemon mixture on my hands.

When are you having your henna done? What she can do is have very little work done on the palms of her hand and wash it off with water in about an hour. Depending on the heat of her palms, it shouldn't be very dark. Once your wedding is over, ask her to keep washing/scrubing her hands with soap and water and it might not be all that visible when it is time for work on Monday.

We haven't scheduled anything yet. She actually wants to do it on Friday (after work) and get it off by Monday, so that coworkers will never see it. I think that leaving it for only an hour or two and washing it off with water will probably work. And thanks for the sugar/lemon tip. I definitely want mine to last :)

I had an Indian friend that I worked with who had it done and although our company is formal they all thought it was a very nice cultural tradtion and didn't mind or care that she had it on her hands.

I'm probably a little late for this, but mine came a lot quicker on our honeymoon than it ever has. I think it was due to the salt or chlorine from all the swimming in the ocean and pools maybe. Just an idea!
