Favorite Mandap?

Have you ever seen a mandap that you loved more than any other?  Something jaw-dropping?  Mine's a lucite mandap.  I'm sure it would be crazy expensive but I saw pics of one once and it was the coolest mandap EVER!There's a pic in my bio's photo gallery decor page if you want to check out the lucite mandap!

I was an art major so I made a lot of elephant sculptures out of clay since my family collects them...But maybe I will attempt it and see how it turns out. It might be a disaster. I was just figuring you get floral foam and cut it to the shapes you want and glue it together. But I think since it was for the escort table I would use silk flowers and stick it into the foam and ribbon/fabric for the draping....But yes it does take time. And yeah that elephant on the partyland website is GORGEOUS! I might attempt this in secret in my room because if it turns out to be a disaster I don't want anyone to even know it was an option hahaha FI might think I went insane.

Lil_miss_sha- let me know how it goes! How much are they quoting you for a fresh floral elephant topiary? Or if you are going on etsy how much are they charging? I was just trying to price it out. Floral foam isn't expensive but finding enough silk flowers (that isn't carnations, is pricey) I'm estimating about $50 for everything unless I can find cheaper silk flowers. I think I will still try it when I get home from my trip, if it doesn't work I can use the flowers for something else.

For DIY, what would you do for eyes?  Skip them altogether?  I think making an elephant could be kind of a fun project, but I worry that the eyes might end up looking creepy if you don't get them right. :)And I would imagine carnations could look quite good if you packed them in closely together.  They always look so nice in pomander bunches and stuff.

I agree with the eyes looking creepy if not done right. But in Lil_miss_shas pic the elephant doesn't really have eyes and the one on the partyland site looks like you can just make the eyes out of sculpty clay that you can get from the craft store and bake in the oven. Haha I am still debating this project because I don't know if I will have time to figure it out. I wonder how much it costs to have someone do it?

The pics of the floral elephants are adorable.  I want to make one now too!  :)  So I am not DIY savvy at all.  But would it be possible to buy an elephant topiary stuffed with moss.  Then get silk flowers and simply pin them in the center of the flower?  The moss should be able to hold the pins in place right?  Then you can always embellish the feet and the back with cloth therefore decreasing the cost of flowers.

yeah I am pretty sure the moss will hold up the flowers. If you get silk flowers you can just hot glue them on there.
