When I showed my new ring to my friends and we started talking about the ring itself, one of them smartly told me not to compare it to anyone else's because it's not a competition, and they all speak to us and fit us for different reasons.  So... I try not to.  And that's what comparing the carats of the center stone feels like to me.

Carrie, true, but carat size is only 1 of so many factors, and like you friend said, each ring speaks to each person differently.  Like, mine, I'm fine that it's the size it is because the size and the shape works perfectly on my fingers IMO, and (without trying to sound snarky) that's the only opinion that matters Wink.

That's why I thought an anonymous would relieve any feelings of comparison--b/c we don't know whose is whose. Also, someone could have an absolutely perfect 1/2 ct stone or a 4 ct stone with horrible specs, so it shouldn't be implied that bigger is better. Plus, like you said, we're not comparing any of the other factors that make our rings awesome...it's just that a diamond is that most universal and so easiest to make into a poll. =)

I love my ring.  FI was actually surprised when I told him how big of a stone I wanted, since it was smaller than what he'd been originally thinking.  However, I have small hands and am not a fancy person, so the last thing I wanted was some big ol' rock hanging off of it - it would just be weird.  What I have is perfect for me, which is what I think everyone here feels like.

That said, it is interesting to see where people fall in the general scheme of things.
