Placecards

Hi ladies -- me again... as you can see I have a ton of questions as we are getting down to the wire so sorry about all the posts in advance! I was wondering how many of you had your placecards/escort cards printed and how many hand wrote them? We got our placecards from India so they are pre-cut so I wouldn't even know how to start printing on them but of course I don't want them to look bad so if there was a way to print on them, let me know... Anyway, just thought I would get some ideas -- thanks!

We're printing them out to save on calligraphy.  Also, mine and my mother's handwriting are AWFUL!  You'd think one of us was a doctor it's so bad.  Ours is a wierd size as well so I just measured them and printed them out on clear matte labels.  Not the prettiest but it worked!  It was also easier this way because the guest list and master table seating charts are all in Excel so we just did a mail merge into Word.  And I'm not kidding when I say writing them out would have been guaranteed much much uglier with our handwriting. If you want to try printing directly onto the cards you could adjust your page settings in Word to be the size of the cards and print them out one by one.  This method would probably take a bit of testing out to get the right placement and afterwards it would still be super time consuming.

I absolutely loved my placecards.  My venue provided the actual card but they weren't very attractive and they only provided a very small line for the name (and south indian names are just WAY too long).  The cards were ivory.  I had leftover lavendar pearlescent metallic paper from my programs so I created a template on word and typed each one with some cursive font.  I made the template so that each rectangle was a little smaller all around than the actual placecard.  I printed, hand cut and taped (using double sided tape) each one to an existing placecard.  Time consuming, but they looked great.

we printed ours using blank templates bought from staples...this worked for us b/c i wanted to add a design on to match our theme.  so ours was directly printed onto each placeccard -for us handwriting woudl also have taken too long. sounds like the clear address labels might be the way to go for you...

I was going to say use clear address labels as well. dafont.com has some really nice fonts you can download (for free!). You can size and color it to your needs. And then it is just a matter of sticking the labels onto the cards.

We used placecards from Paper Source and printed the names directly on there.  I was nervous about them fitting into my printer (regular old inkjet) but I fooled the printer into thinking it was index card-sized (which it pretty much was) and it turned out great!  See if your cards are about the same measurements as a small index card and you might have good luck feeding it through the printer.  I printed out all the names and then used a nice black pen to indicate what table they were sitting at.  So I printed, "John and Melinda Smith" in a block-y font and then "Table" in a script-y font and then just hand wrote the number "9," etc.  I actually wrote the numbers while getting a pedicure the day before the wedding.  Eeep!  Nothing like the last minute.

DublintoMadras - which place cards on paper source did you end up using? I was thinking of getting mine on there as well

Smitha, I used their standard placecards: http://www.paper-source.com/cgi-bin/paper/color/placecards/2704.010/215.html They come pre-scored and are about the size of small index cards.  Mine were red, which are more like a cranberry red.  I actually have like 20 or so leftover if anyone wants them.  Free to a good home and easy to ship, I'll send them to anyone (in the U.S.!) who wants them: dublintomadras at gmail dot com.

I did calligraphy on mine, but I think clear labels would be brilliant!

Hi,   We had ours printed with our name and wedding date printed on it.  I hand wrote the guests names on it to give it a personal touch.  It was a calming thing to do right before the wedding because I was left alone to finish the task.  Hope this helps.
