How to Handle Buffet Line/Speeches

Hi Guys!!! My wedding is 9 months away today!!!! I am wondering how you guys are handling the buffet. I am havinbg 250 guests, and there will be two buffets set on either side of the room. However, I would like to do speeches during dinner (so we can get dancing started right away). Is there a way o do this without having half the room up getting food? Any thoughts? Thanks!

    Hi Ssaeed,

We had about 300+ people, and had the same question you have!  We decided that the guests would have to gruel through the speeches, and sit in their chair... else there would be a lot of noise through the buffet line, them getting up, clanging plates, kids... ahhhh... so:

We gave the guests cocktail hour (fruit, salad, baked veggie samosas, make your own chaat) so they would be able to sit through about an hour of speeches (time about 3-5 minutes per set of family, friends, cousins etc), 2 entertainment dances, and our first dance.  At that point we opened up the dance floor to everyone, and during that time only, we had our MC go around to each table and let them go for dinner :)

I am having the same question....We were thinking of having the cake cutting, 2 toasts, and then first dance.  After the first dance opening up the dance floor and the buffet line.  Then after ~ 1 hour having everyone site down and then the rest of the speeches and the father/duaghter and mom/son dances.  We did this for my sister's wedding and it seemed to work out.

MOst people don't mind sitting through everything up front though since they just came from cocktail hour.

From my experience, there needs to be a lot of food at the beginning during cocktail hour.  However some people will arrive late and miss that food....sooo

the other option is to make sure that you have no more than 5 speeches and to mix up your entertainment (dances and or professional acts)  within the speeches.

You can also have the buffet start an hour or 45 min after the dancing starts

Guests know that they'll have to sit thru speeches but when there is too many it can be annoying....
