South Asian Weddings

Hello

Hello Ladies,

I realized I started writing without introducting myself and that's not right! I'm new to the board and into the knot. My boyfriend and I are both Christian Indians. The wedding is for June 18th, 2011 in Fort Worth, Texas. He hasn't offically proposed yet, but I think most of you girls will understand how that situation works in our culture. Happy planning to everyone!

I guess I can officially welcome you to the board!!!  LOL.  We are pretty laid back on this board.  Happy Planning!!! Can't wait to hear your ideas and I love your inspiration page in your bio.

Oh....My name is Hina and our date 10/1/11, but I think we will be pushing back due to my school, but we haven't been able to confirm for sure if we will be moving the date or not.

    Hi Hina,

I actually love your site too. It's really pretty!! I wanted to do red and gold, but my older sister had red and gold at her wedding and I thought it would be wierd if both were the same color

    Hi Deepthi!

I never introduced myself when I started posting on the board, either. Now I feel bad, oops!  I lurked for a while and read pages and pages of the older posts :)

My FI and I have the opposite "issue" as you: we got engaged in March and we have no idea when or were our wedding will be! Hopefully we will figure things out soon.

    Good luck with planning!

Thanks!!  I know red and gold is so common in Indian weddings, but I just love the colors.  I will be using a cream/ivory accent with it.  Since I saw a groom sherwani done in cream and red for FI.  But I love your colors.

Shaily.. I had that issue with my ex-fiance (sadly I've been engaged once already). This time it was the parents telling us we needed to make a decision on where this relationship was going after 6 months. We knew even then we wanted to get married. He won't propose til we have been together at least a year which is June!!
We are both from Arlington/Fort worth area and then after that we just went over dates. He liked it on our anniversary date so he could remember it easier.

Hi Deepthi - I realize I too never introduced myself!  My name is Meghan - I have been 'lurking' for a while too and just now starting to respond to some posts.  We got engaged in June-09 and our wedding is 7/11/10.  He is Jewish, I am Indian (Gujarati).  But we are doing a Hindu ceremony.

My older sister also did red & gold so I didn't want to either even though the decor of our venue has a lot of rich red tones.  It took me a long time to decide but I finally went with navy blue bm dresses and silver.  Though I will be wearing a red & white sari and a goldish lengha for the reception.

Welcome and good luck with the planning!

    Hi Deepthi

I am nicky, I was introduced to knot.com by my sis this past yr and been posting on this board for a while. Its great to converse with peer brides on here and get their opinions on issues we dont know how to handle.  Good luck with your planning, its great you got a lot of time I started about 9 months before and I wasnt engaged then,  he proposed back in Jan2010, and I been planning since sept 09...so no worries sometimes the guys just spend extra thought and time and makes the moment worth it :)

@Deepthi We have some ideas as to when we'd like to get married, but I think we might be running short on time. We are thinking the end of this November, so yikes! I hope we can figure things out soon. We've seen a few places, so I think (and hope) that once we book a venue, things will start to fall into place.

I can't wait to hear about how your planning goes!

    Hi and welcome, Deepthi!

I never officially introduced myself either. My name is Kavita and I'm getting married on June 19 of this year in Dallas. Meghan, my fiance is also Jewish and I am Hindu. We are having both Hindu and Jewish ceremonies, though, and are calling it a "Hinjew" wedding!
