Did you choose your own Mangalsutra? Do you wear it everyday? Does anyone know of a more modern look for a Mangalsutra? I know some brides who really wanted something specific because they'd wear it everyday.

I thought i was going to pick my own...but my FI told me his mom bought one from india for me....i know my mom doesnt wear hers everyday

I was with my FILs when they chose mine.  It's not intended to be something I'll wear every day, but I got a say in it.

Mine was left for me by my grandparents, so it's an heirloom. I don't wear it everyday and I don't remember my mom ever wearing hers everyday either.

The latest fashion in mangalsutras seems to be small, delicate ones with diamonds. I like the idea, but I am not much of a necklace person to start with, so I am not sure if I would wear it everyday anyway.

I didn't pick out mine, his parents did.  I added it to an 18 inch gold chain, so that the mangalsutra wasn't visible below my shirt of the day.  I wore it every day....

I didn't pick mine...my husband did...its a smaller length and really pretty (just gold with black beeds).  I wore it for the first few months...but I never intended to wear it all the time.

FI wants us to go buy it because he wants me to pick it out.

I generally don't wear jewelry and I take off my e-ring from time to time because of work (medical/surgicial assistant). I'm more inclined to keep a necklace on. I plan to wear it daily.

I like KP's idea about adding a gold chain to it.

Does anyone have an idea of the price range for one? We're trying to set a budget for one, but it's hard to do if we haven't a clue.

i chose mine, its a medium size and i love it , .... but i don't know if i will wear it everyday ..... i wear minimal amount of jewelry to begin with but i will defintely wear it to events and ot everyday ... would not wear it to go grocery shoppig ...
