Outfit for ceremony/reception

Hi everyone!

Just curious.. what did you wear (or what are you wearing) for your wedding ceremony and reception?  Sari for one, lengha for the other, sari/lengha for both?  or an Indian outfit for ceremony and an American syle dress for the reception?

I'm so outdated on the latest styles and on what Indian brides have been wearing to weddings lately!  I'm thinking of wearing an Indian outfit for the ceremony (not sure whether sari or lengha) and was thinking about wearing an American style dress for the reception (so that I can be comfortable dancing!) but I just found out that my mother-in-law just bought me a lengha for the reception (which was so nice), so I am undecided on what to do!

Also, if you wouldn't mind sharing a picture of what you wore (or what you are going to wear), I would love to see it!  Again, I'm so outdated on the latest styles so this would be really helpful!

Thanks so much for your input!
Priya

    Hi There

I would suggest visiting indian bridal wear boutiques or even white wedding dress boutiques to get an idea of what you like and what the trends are.  You can also look online, there are plenty of indian stores that have their collections on their websites.

Additionally there are two blogs that I think most SA brides will check out atleast once during their planning...

    Good luck!

I definitely agree with the links that MrsBM shared, they are great resources and Neha of Marigold Events is a sweetheart, I am sure if you emailed her she would be more than happy to help!

For our wedding, I wore a traditional panetar (Gujarati wedding sari) and since my husband is American, I wore a wedding dress for our reception. I think it worked out well and I had the best of both worlds.

(You can see my sari in the post a few below this one where I posted a link to our wedding teasers.)

Thanks, Priya! I hope they helped you see how things might look in both a traditional Indian sense and with a wedding gown, too.

For our Hindu ceremony and main reception I wore a bandhani lehnga (the wedding was in Jaipur).  My ILs are pretty traditional, so there was no dancing or anything and I had to keep the dupatta over my head and the tie from the ceremony on throughout the reception.

We had two other receptions in India (in Bengal).  I wore a Benarasi sari for one and a Baluchari sari for the other.  Both are very traditional for Bengali weddings.

Oh yeah, for our Christian wedding I had a dress, but that just seems less interesting after all the other outfits LOL!

When I pull myself together and get organized I"ll post pictures.
