I am sure you can invite them, but cost would be a big factor for some.  Has your family and/or friends expressed an interest in attending?

My family showed some interest but they feel that they dont need to be there. I dont know how to explain it but it seems to me that the wedding down here in the states will be for me and my friends and family as well as his friends and family that are here. The wedding in sri lanka is more for his immediate family and family friends who weren't able to come down. FMIL and FGrandma In law wanted us to have a traditional sri lankan wedding as well...

wow, i hope that all made sense Hinaj

It's another wedding. Of course your family should be there if they can be.

    SonaliPop, AGREED!

I would want my family there to experience the whole thing with me.

I would definitely invite family and close friends!

My family in India practically begged us to have the wedding in Sri Lanka (they didn't want to travel to the States) but we opted to have it here instead because at the time, the conflict was still going on. Now that I look back, having a beach front poruwa ceremony at the Galle Face hotel (where the FILs got married) sounds so wonderful!  Hope your parents can make it!!!

I agree with the other posters that I would invite my family and close friends. It's another wedding, another special day in your lives and of course you'd want those who are closest to you and those you love to share it with you.

I'd run it my your in-laws to see what they think of course, but I doubt they'd be opposed to having your family and close friends there. If anything I would venture that they'd be excited to share their culture and country with your family!

Honestly, you should just ask anyone and everyone to come. You don't pay for people to go there and if you have it there it's a lot cheaper to hold a wedding so you just all have a vacation.

I thought about it in India, but we would have way to many family and friends missing so we stayed here. As catholics we can't do two wedding, but it would have been awesome to do it again there.
