NWR - recipes for bread?

I want to try making things like roti, paratha, naan, etc. I feel like bread is a pretty safe place to start expanding my cooking repertoire, lol. If anyone has recipes (pref. ones that use measurements), please PM them to me?  Even approx. measurements are fine - I just need a rough idea of how much of what needs to go in so I don't feel lost with the recipe.

Thanks in advance!

I have no idea. The board's so quiet! BellsnRings is probably super busy today - her wedding's tomorrow. Dunno where everyone else has disappeared to, though.

I notice that the board gets a little quiter over the weekend...plus its memorial long weekend for you US knotties....I had my long weekend last week (Canada woot!)

As for bread...I know how to make banana bread from scratch...probably not what you are looking for.

Well, I tried the recipe you listed, kavita. Came out pretty well. I'm glad to say that not a single one came out shaped like Africa. The first couple were a little square-ish, though, from the way they stuck to the rolling pin even after adding the flour. Took me a few tries to the the right amount. I credit having learned how to roll out pastry dough for being able to roll out mostly-round rotis:)

I tracked down a couple of Indian cooking blogs today too, for some other things, and there are some recipes for flatbreads in there too. I might try those a little later in the week. Here are the websites:

There was one more, but I can't remember it right now. I'll add it if I find it again.

Edited to add - Bhanu&Anuj, I didn't see your post till just now! I have a favorite banana bread recipe too, lol. In fact, I have bananas ripening in the fridge for just that recipe. FI has been asking for it lately.

Edited again - found that other cooking blog!

Great, I'm glad it helped! You seem like you know your way around the kitchen pretty well! I want to try this recipe: http://allrecipes.co.in/recipe/120/sindhi-teen-daal.aspx

My family is Sindhi and my mom said this is exactly how my grandma makes daal. I just have to figure out if the names of the different types of daal have English equivalents so I can find them in the store.

Mmm, I love banana bread! So jealous you can make it. I saw that someone purchased the stand mixer from my registry. Maybe this will help increase how often I bake.

I grew up baking. It as from a box - didn't learn how to bake from scratch until i was a teenager - but it was enough to  help me learn my way around a itchen with enough ease that I can learn pretty quickly.

FI's family is Sindhi too. Not sure about the specific differences between that and others, but I'm sure more I dig the more I'll learn:)

So far as English names for te different kind of daal... I don't know what any of them are. There's an Indian grocery store in town and I usually write down exactly what it's called in a recipe and go looking by that name. Sometimes I'll luck out and find that the English name is printed on the package too.

I did discover that FI HATES moong daal. Oops. He didn't tell me this until after I'd tried a recipe for it. I thought it was okay, but not something I'd make often. It won't go to waste, though - his mother likes it, so I'm sending her what's left of the stuff I cooked plus the rest of  dry beans.
