Engagement photos

Did you guys take engagement photos at a place that is special to you or in a place your photog suggested? We are trying to think about the things we really love to do together so that when it's time to take some photos, we have ideas. Did you try to incorporate yourselves into the photography or did you take in the scenery?

We want our pics to be in Chicago downtown, but there are so many places I want to include.  They are not necessarily sentimental, but they are just good location to take pics at.  I want some by the Lake, the Millenium park by the Bean, and one by the CTA station, because I am a commuter and FI hates the train LOL.

Here are some pics I liked of others I have found:

We want to try to take pics in/around The Metropolitan Museum of Art, since that was where we had our first date and where he proposed. And like I mentioned in Hina's inspiration pic thread, our photog then suggested Grand Central Terminal, too. Perfect. We love the architecture and it's so full of life.

I also liked the idea of Ellis Island or the Statue of Liberty as kind of a nod to our cultural and racial differences and how we've come together dispite them...I am not sure how to fit that all into a few hours though!

We wanted to go with what ever the photog suggested...he ended up suggesting the location where FI and I first kissed...we didn't tell the photog that though - it was a nice thing for us though :)

We went with beach for our first shoot which was random but I wanted a more secluded place with serene landscape and the chicago beach did just that! For our second shoot I wanted to do just the oppossite and bring some lights from the city since the city has such beautiful buildings. We have been to millineum park many times and it was something that was very familiar to us :)

I say pick somewhere thats special to you because a good photographer can make anything look good!

For our first shoot we did it on a playground at the high school where we met 10 years ago, and the second we did one of our favorite adult hangout spots: the lighthouse at a beach.

We have had amazing dates at zoos. For my last birthday, he adopted me a monkey from the Lincoln Park zoo in Chicago, and we try to go to one wherever we go. One of our first dates was at London Zoo as well! So, we were thinking maybe something like that, but we're not sure. I love when I see people going to carnivals in theirs, eating ice cream, baking, just doing fun stuff they'd do together anyway but making the colors pop and their personalities really reflect in the photograph.

Ohh the zoo idea sounds like a lot of fun! I agree that the most fun photographs are where you see the people at the fair, etc doing the fun things that reminds you of being a child and carefree!

We did our photos in Chicago, starting at the University of Chicago which looks like something out of Harry Potter, and then took a cab to downtown and did Millenium Park and Magnificent Mile. I know EVERYONE does those same ones, but we feel our photographer made them look more unique and colorful. I think you can pick what locations are sentimental to you and your photographer should be able to focus on YOU.
