Hindu Ceremony - Shoes

Do brides wear shoes during a Hindu ceremony?  Do you have to remove your shoes before walking into the mandap?  How does this work?

I had a pair of shoes in mind for my big day, but then I heard that you can't have your shoes on during the ceremony.  I don't want to walk down the aisle, and unbuckle strappy sandals prior to entering the mandap.

I did fancy flip flops actually, I kept my shoes off and one of my friends made sure it was outside of the mandap when I needed it after the wedding was done.    I've been to weddings where it was in a temple, and the custom is that all shoes are outside of the temple, made it easy for everyone.  If it's in a hotel, then I would recommend what I did above.

    I wore these:

They were good for slipping on and off for the ceremony, and the heal isn't too high, so the lehnga didn't trail on the ground when I was barefoot.  The down side is that this isn't a comfortable style.  We didn't have dancing at our reception, so that wasn't an issue, but for weddings here I would recommend changing shoes into something easier to stand/move in.
