** kpwedkk **

Since you're in the PHX metro, maybe you might be able to help me out.

At the end of the month I'm coimg out to Tucson for a weekend to hang with my family. Our plan is to make a trip up to Phoenix to shopping for some Indian attire for them. What stores do you recommend (or know of there)?
I'm hoping that if we're not successful, I'll at least have an idea of what people like and can then shop here in NorCal and/or order online.

Thanks in advance!

    Hi AquarianDragon -
    Clothing
Sona Chaandi next to IKEA (Warner Rd and I-10) and they are having the grand opening of their second store at Paradise Valley Mall next to Sears on March 15th...

They have their main store in Artesia California, they can make you a custom outfit if nothing in their store is what you are looking for.  (This is where I made my custom wedding and reception outfits, and my whole family purchased outfits here as well.)

They are a little bit pricey, but you have to haggle, playing the out of town card, works, because you can bring them more business :)  They did all of the outfits for Frieda Ross in Slumdog Millionare.

The owner's name is Pradeep.  He knows every single piece of outfit that is in his store, and when he is there, than his assistants, can give you the best deal.

He also has a lot of the reallly well done jewelry and bangles to match which is really nice, and Men's outfits including turbans :)

If you have time, you can order something, with a particular design, and they do tailoring in the store :)

Also another great place to see other stores and their locations is http://www.azindia.com/businesslisting_details.aspx?searchid=222

There is one that is in Tucson according to the above website.

Really if you were looking for one of the best stops to find all of your wedding needs, I highly recommend Artesia because they have jewelry, pooja materials etc.

If you need more help let me know or any of the other ladies.

    KP

Just seconding KP on Artesia.  I got my lehnga from Frontier Heritage on Pioneer.  DH was able to get the price down by 50% but technically it wasn't "bridal" which I know increases the price a lot.  There is also a small boutique run by a woman from Baroda which had really nice stuff.  Very pricey though.

I don't know about Phoenix, but I don't know anyone who's bought anything except petticoats or had a blouse altered up here.

:-) I love Frontier!  They were super expensive though :-) But they have too many beautiful things as well!!

Sona Chaandi migrated from Artesia just last year.  But I agree, Phoenix despite the huge Indian community doesn't have a lot of boutiques :S

I LOVE ARTESIA! Little India is my second home when I'm back home in CA.
LOOOOVEEE FRONTIER! But yes, super pricey. There's also "Loveleen" and a few other shops that are nice.  Sona Chaandi does amazing stuff when it comes to customizing.

Thank you everyone all for your help.

The Tucson shop listed on the website shut down a few years before I moved to CA. I guess there were not enough customers to support it.

I had hoped there were a few more options in Phoenix that perhaps I wasn't finding online. *sigh*

I hate to haggle.... luckily, my friend and at least one of my cousins love it!

Britishmi, I'm about to go check for the PM and respond to it.
