Visa Issues

Hi Everyone,

My Fiance is from Indian and I'm from US and am still learning a lot about the differenct cultures.
M
ost of his family still lives in India and though all of them will not all be able to come to our American wedding in May (we're going to India for a traditional wedding in 2012 I think) we really want his parents and his older sister to come for the American wedding.  So his sister went for her Visa interview yesterday and we found out that she was denied her Visa :(.  He tells me that she can apply again in February but nothing is assured.

Has anyone had this happen to any of their family members?  And how likely is it that she will get it on the second try?

Now I'm really nervous about his parents getting their Visa, they go next month to find out if they will get theirs.

Any advice or stories would be appreciated.  Thanks

My Mom just applied for a visa to go to India. She was denied initially, but re-did her paperwork and sought an appointment with the embassy. Upon their advice, she re-applied and was accepted. It can happen! However, it may be harder based on the fact that they are trying to come into America, but I am unsure. Have hope!

H is also from India and his entire family lives there.  I was actually shocked that his sister DID get a visa to come here... she is single and does not have a job and usually they decide the visa based on if the person will go back to India.  A single, unemployed girl with a brother settled here seems more like she would stay in the US.

Your FI's parents are probably more likely to get a visa because older people get it more easily than younger people.  However, a lot of it is random.  Like I said, I don't understand why H's sister did get a visa, and we know other people who we thought would and didn't.  So, it's totally possible that your FSIL will get it on the second try, but she might not.  The best thing for her is to make sure the paperwork is correct and look for any "conditions" that might be a problem and see if she can work around those.

H's family also didn't come to our wedding here.  H supports them, so he would have had to pay for their trip in addition to all the wedding stuff in India.  They wanted to come and he would have liked to have them, but things didn't work out.  And it was fine with everyone in the end.
