SARI AS A RECEPTION DRESS

HELP!!!

my future in laws would like for me to wear a Sari because its what they wear to weddings... I already have a reception dress and wanted to wear mine.. WHAT DO I DO? we're having a second wedding in Sri Lanka so I think it'd be a lot better to wear the Sari when I'm there.. I hope they dont take it offensively.  HELPPPP

Have you tried explaining that you you want to wear a sari during the second wedding?  If not, explain to them, this is what you want to do.  They are getting what they want, because you will wear a sari in Sri Lank and you can wear your dress to your reception.

The only problem I see is if they not going to be in Sri Lanka for the second wedding.  Then maybe you can wear the sari for a little while and change into your dress.

Hinaj, they WILL be at the wedding in Sri Lanka. they're the reasons why we're having a second one there. But you're right. I should let them know that I'd much rather wear the sari in Sri Lanka. THANKS!

Wear what you like. They can pay for the event, but as far as your clothes, you should wear what you want to. Let us know how that goes. Be gentle and explain, and if they don't understand, have your FI explain.

As a compromise you could wear your reception dress and then wear your "Going away" sari towards the end of the night.  Yes, this would involve leaving the reception for a quick costume change but it might just make both sides happy.  OR you could wear the sari the following morning.
