When are you guys having your....

mehndi, & mayon events (sorry if I spelled it wrong).  I have attended weddings  where it was days before or the day before the wedding.  So when is yours if you are having one?  I still don't want to do it, but I can't decide at all.

I'm getting my mehndi done two days before the wedding, since it will probably take a while and I won't be able to do anythingw while it's drying.  The day before the wedding we are having a women-only mehndi party, primarily for me to have some time with all my girlfriends who are coming in from out of town.  The mehndi artist will be there if any of them want to have it done.  I think it's a nice time to socialize with people who you won't have time to see during the actual wedding.  It doesn't have to be a huge over-the-top bash, do what you want--it's your party!

I"m having my nails done on thursday morning, followed by my mehendi on thursday afternoon/evening.  We are having a mixed female/male "mehendi".  THe only thing that really makes it a mehendi will be a mehendi artist who will be there.  Otherwise it's just another party to welcome the out of town guests and for us to have some "down time" to socialize with people more than at the wedding.

    good luck with the decision!

My haldi ceremony is the day before (it was planned around out of town guest arrival)...I'm worried that I'll be 'yellow stained' for the wedding day...even though that's kind of the point LOL...(to look like your glowing!)

I'm having my henna done on Thursday night. Planning the mehndi party (for the bridal party) for Friday, the rehearsal dinner Saturday, and the wedding Sunday. No other pre-wedding parties that I know of, but if any of our friends/family members are planning anything it's up to them.

Thank you ladies!!!  Well if we do end up doing it, I know we will do the mehndi and mayon would be the same day.  Since we are having a saturday wedding.  I was thinking we can do it on Friday, which can allow most of out of town guest to attend (that is 80% of FI's guest list) if they can fly in that morning or something along that line.

But the problem I see and you guys can let me know if it is actually a problem or not is that, shouldn't I get my mehndi done Thursday or Friday??? Would the turmeric ruin the mehndi?  I have only seen brides get their mehndi done after they have done the mayon ceremony and its at least 2 days before the wedding, but we can't hold the mayon/mehndi during a weekday, it will inconvenience everyone who will have to rush from work, to home then to the party for us and probably the OOT guests won't be able to attend.

Any idea as to how solve the problem. My sister suggested doing the weekend before the wedding, which means no OOT guest, so it will really look odd that there wil be too many from the bridal side and not enough in the groom's guest.

    TIA!!!

I noticed some of you ladies are getting your mehndi done before the mayon.   Does the turmeric not lighten the mehndi??  Don't they put the turmeric stuff all over your hands and feet and face....etc?

It isn't the turmeric itself that can ruin the design, though turmeric may alter the color a little; it's the scrubbing and exfoliating. Nothing kills a mehndi design faster thatn stripping off or bleaching the skin cells that are holding the dye (which is why it's also recommended to get your nails done before your mehndi). I strongly suggest doing that event before you get your mehndi done, if at all possible.

I personally am not having that event, because I'm white. With all that turmeric, I'd turn yellow, and "janudiced" is not the look I'm going for on my wedding day.

I would really like to keep them together Fri, Sat, Sun so everyone can attend.  But I don't want the mehndi gone by the time the wedding comes around.  Do you guys have any suggestions?  Will it get pretty light if I get my mehndi done Thursday night??

My cousin didn't look yellow at all. I think that if you look yellow after, something is wrong!

Do not skip out on some of these ceremonies. I guess I'm old school - I want a lot of them.

I had one friend who had a mehndi party where and artist came to do everybodys and she enjoyed herself and ate. Later, at home, she had hers done in the company of a few close friends so she could be at peace. I think that was a great idea.

In regards to turning yellow/ruining your mendhi
...that might actually be the case.  My mom told me that she'll tell our guests to just put the haldi on for 'shagan' - not actually sure how that would work...b/c its kind of fun to get the bride all 'haldi-ed' up lol
