in South Asian Weddings
before your wedding, did you guys begin to plan your weddings?  Was it the same time line as American weddings, and how the knot checklist is?  When did you guys started seriously planning, since there are a couple of events instead of just the ceremony and reception?  and how did you handle it?

    I started a year and some change out. I think you start when you can and get as much as you can done. It takes a lot to pull these things together and the more time you have the better off you'll be. Just go off the checklist don't worry about the dates it has on it. That's what I did and it helped.

    I started approximately a yr ahead too, I wish i knew before because I like to plan everything way in advance...and boy do I get bothered by not having even the little things done on time..FI has done only one thing..gotten his tux (no accessories or shoes or vest) and is so relaxed, wedding is 2 mths away and am going nuts lol.

    We started tiptoeing around planning before he proposed. We started genuinely planning to have the wedding in November 2010, one year out from our intended date. Then we were forced to push the date back due to some budget/life issues, so it's not till November 2011. Unless we somehow manage to find better jobs and a place to live that isn't either parent's house, we're stuck that far off, and you have no idea how much I hate our circumstances right now.

    I started planning about 1 year out. I thought this would be plenty of time, but I am still running behind on some things. I had a mini melt-down today because I didn't have time to go to the stationary store until today for the programs and was told they would not be printed in time, so I had to call and find somewhere else who could make them in time. AHH...I felt like a "bridezilla" for the first time today.

    We started planning for the beginning of Aug right after we got engaged at the beginning of Oct....so about 10 months before.

    As for checklists, I just compiled a whole bunch of checklists (from what I goggled, received at bridal shows and thru theknot.com) and added the Desi related tasks in :)
