Dia de Los Muertos Wedding

November 2, 2012!!!!!!!!!!!!  So close yet so far away!  Hello, I am Amy and from Denver.  My fiance and I are planning a Dia de los Muertos themed wedding (Day of the Dead).  While I have been blessed with amazing friends who have been able to make this vision come true I am often worried about if I will be able to pull this off.  Anyone else out there in theknot land planning something like this?

Happy Planning Loves!

Yes, actually, we're getting married on 11/2 of next year. :)  Although we're not having DOTD as an overall theme, we will have some elements, such as the cake topper, one of the favors (likely either a sugar skull or a white chocolate version), and the ring bearer box.  We don't want to go crazy overboard with the theme itself, but we wanted to have elements in the wedding to celebrate the date and the occasion.
Are you getting married in a Catholic church?  We are, and due to the holy day we're limited in what prayers, etc we can use during the mass.  I don't know yet exactly what we'll have to choose from.
  • We haven't gone completely overboard.  The holiday itself has served as the color palette for our wedding.  We will be going very vivid with color.  While I was raised Catholic (not really practicing any longer) my FI was raised in a Mormon family (no longer practicing) so we will be having a spiritual civil service.  We also opt'ed for a Taco Bar at our reception and will be serving traditional Mexican cookies along with our wedding cake.  We are planning on having a face painter at our reception for kids and guest who would like to have their faces painted in sugar skull style.
The morning after our wedding we actually have a photoshoot scheduled and my FI and I will at that point be painted up like the traditional Dia de los Muertos bride and groom.
