Random Question

Does anyone else see STD and think sexually transmitted disease and have to mentally correct to save the date? Or vise-versa?

I am only asking because I do it all the time

Re: Random Question

  • um yes...just like FMIL is really close to FML.
  • Yup!
I also don't see F/U as "follow up" and BM as "bridesmaid." Yay for Knot lingo!!

  • right there with you with STD and BM. Being a nurse makes acronyms in real life pretty difficult to differentiate.

  • Yes!!

I wrote down "STD" on one of the wedding lists I was making and FI was like "um...is there something...you need to tell me?" and I was like "no...why" "...because you have 'STD' written down...explain..." lmao ^_^ best convo ever :P
  • all the time for all of those!

  • Yea--I always think the worse!  STD, F/U, BM...The Knot (or "TK") always brings my mind somewhere it shouldn't!

Aside: I guess it's "STI" instead of "STD" now ("I" for infection).  Times, they are a changin'.  Tongue out

HAHA!!!<div>I have a similar story. My mom saw the STD's on the wedding spreadsheet and she says "Why did I pay $85 for sexually transmitted diseases?" LOL</div>

  • Oh there's a reason why FMIL is so close to FML...lol
  • You are not alone.  I tend to hate abbreviations in general, but "STD" tops the list as most unfortunate.

I do it all the time.

I remember when I first started posting, and saw a thread title with 'STD' in it. I was really wondering what I had gotten myself into. But, since I was curious and opened the thread, I was soon able to figure it out.

And I also keep seeing 'FML' when people type 'FMIL.'

    Silly abbreviations. Tongue out

  • I am so glad I am not the only one :)

I will admit I never thought of the BM thing as anything but bridesmaid, but now everytime I see it I think of the other BM lol
  • It's sad, I have been on TK so long that I no longer think of STD as anything else. The funny thing is that I just sent them out and it's so hard not to type STD when I am talking to someone!

I do laugh at F/U and FMIL all the time. Really...F/U??!?!?
  • Thank you! I couldn't believe that everyone was seriously writing these things! I just kept giggling! I always like to tell people that I want to give them an STD and that my BMs are amazing!

  • I laugh at ALL of these.  I think part of the reason that I decided not to send out STDs is that I just couldn't bring myself to do it after the association that TK has created with them in my mind, lol.

Oh, and here locally, TK 101 is the hard rock/metal radio station, and everyone calls it "TK."  So everytime I see TK I get joint associations with tulle and Metallica.  It's pretty hillarious, lol.

  • I thought those too.

WnaBKaet will understand, I have this issue in the medical field too. Medical abbreviations are sometimes obvious and sometimes bizzare.
SOB = Shortness of Breath, but that's not what I read "Patient was SOB..."
Or sometimes unfortunate names. I've been told Melena is a nice (Greek?) girl's name but it is something...BM related...in the medical field. Its not "a good thing."

I don't see anything wrong with Tulle and Metallica! :D
  • thank goodness im not the only one who has thought this! im gonna have to leave the room im laughing so hard!(my fiance's sleeping and i may just wake him lol)
