Need some music suggestions!

Hello ladies! So for my wedding we are choosing to have non traditional music played during the ceremony. I was hoping I could get some good ideas on some nice classic rock (me and the FI love us some classic rock) songs that might be good to play instead of the traditional wedding march music & such. Does anyone have any good ideas? I have a special place in my heart for 80's hair bands and the psychadelic rock of the 60's & 70's but really I am looking for an good out of the box ideas that anyone might have!!! Thank you all!Cool

  • Vitamin String Orchestra is awesome for this kind of thing.  They do classical versions of tons of songs, with a bunch of classic rock, too.  I would check them out for pre-ceremony, ceremony, and cocktail hour music.  It gives you that offbeat touch you want, but people who aren't familiar with the songs will barely even notice.
  • I am doing VSQ for the prelude music because FI and I love it, it'll be a lot of GNR songs because I ADORE them, fav band in the world! Lol
  • I was at a wedding where they used "Moving right along" by the Muppets for their postlude.  It was super cute.  They also danced to "Rainbow connection" for their first dance.

I'm walking down the aisle to the song Something by the Beatles. Our theme for the ceremony is all you need is love so that is the recessional sing. Our sand ceremony song is Forever by the beach boys aka the wedding sing from full house. We are walking in to the reception to AC/DC due to my l love for 80s metal.

  • We are planning on doing all our own music so I've been looking into this lots.

  • I love all of these ideas! I am also happy there are brides out there that aren't walking down to traditional wedding music, it's pretty but I would much rather have a meaningful fun song play for us instead. I was really second guessing myself for wanting to do a very non traditional song but you guys really helped me feel better about it! Thank you!

@Janna, I am definitely going to check out that website, thanks for that too!

  • I'm so jealous! I love 80s hair bands, but my FI has nixed them for the ceremony. Good thing he lets me listen to them all the rest of the time (he even created a CD that's nothing but 80s hairband music for me before we started dating!). I'm going to try to sneak some in the play list for the short refreshment period we'll have afterward, however! We are using non-traditional songs, though. I'll be walking in to "a Love Like Yours and Mine" by Dulcie Taylor, an artist we saw perform here in town a month or so after we got engaged; the friend of a friend, she dedicated the song to us when she performed it that evening, and I got all teary! We'll recess to the Newman/Lovett duet of "You've Got a Friend In Me" -- the Toy Story song. FI is a huge Pixar fan. Our first dance will be to Bonnie Raitt's version of "Feels Like Home", which was written by the same guy who wrote the Toy Story song (and many others) -- Randy Newman. We should find a way to slip the Muppets in, but so far its escaping us. We aren't having a dance reception, but will have background music playing.
