MissOwl's post about talking about the engagement before it happens got me thinking... I was a very independent person before I met my FI. I had lived on my own for over 8 years, I had my own paid-off vehicle, I paid my own bills, I had my own insurance. I was completely self-sufficient. Which I guess is why I cant imagine being in a relationship where I didnt know that a proposal was imminent.
Anyway, when my FI and I discussed budget for a ring and upcoming wedding, we decided that he would pay for the ring and honeymoon, and I would pay for the wedding itself. I make considerably more money than he does though, so for us, this is what worked.
What about you girls?
