Hello, Ladies. As you can see, my name is Temmith. I board hop a lot, but I consider myself an offbeat bride at heart. I am planning with my FI a Grimm Fairy Tale wedding (well, all fairy tales but less Disney)! I am a fairy tale fanatic and he humors me. Haha, no, he enjoys them as well.
Our wedding is very DIY as the majority of our budget is being spent on venue and food. Our ceremony will take place in the Indianapolis Central Library, and our reception will either take place there as well or in a theatre nearby which has a room designed to resemble a small European village in it. It will really depend on which caterer is more affordable which way we go.
These are some of our ideas so far:
*Groom's tuxedo w/ tails will be a custom made creation that combines modern white-tie tuxes with historical patterns
*Part of our ceremony will be a symbolic "meal", based off of the hero sharing his meal with a stanger motif commonly found in fairy tales.
*Have the ring bearer deliver our rings in a wooden treasure box (like the hunter presented to the queen in Snow Drop/White)
*Make our own table runners out of tea-stained book pages
*incorporate some handmade page roses with the fresh flowers
*Have the cake designed to resemble a spiral of books with a castle cake topper
*possibly have thin wooden slabs for chargers instead of regular plates (it was on a David Tutera episode once...)
*Send the guests home with seed ball favours (partially Jack and the Beanstalk, partially Toad and Diamonds)
*Possibly oil lamps for lighting (Arabian Nights - Depends on which venue we have)
*Possibly put some ornament at each table that represents a specific fairy tale (golden baubles around the centerpiece for the Frog Prince, for example). Name each table after its own fairy tale. Create escort cards that relect that (a transparent frog silohette on the Frog Prince Cards). Maybe have a short version of the story available at each table? My favourite tales are more obsecure.
I don't want to make the wedding this huge kid thing. I want a lot of subtle touches that make people think of forests and books and fantasy. I want to give a nod to our favourite stories and incorporate them somehow. Just small things, not something huge and obnoxious (like, I dunno, people dressed up like the Big Bad Wolf).
Does anyone have other ideas on how to incorporate fairy tales? Maybe think of how you would incorporate your own favourite fairy tale...?
Also, my BMs and I have briefly discussed putting a tally card on the back of the programs or menus and making it into a game that people can play if they want. Basically an I-Spy. We were thinking about listing the fairy tales included in the wedding somewhere and then allowing people to write down where they think they see it. They can drop of the lists in a box by the head table. At the end of the night, my MOH will announce the winner and hand out the prize. Would you like this if you were at a wedding as a guest?
Thanks!
