Our Offbeat Shakespearean Wedding...

Because our first conversation was about our mutual love of Shakespeare, because we met in a theatre, and because our wedding is going to be at that same theatre, my FI and I are having a Shakespearean wedding.

Our attire is Midsummer Night's Dream inspired - my dress has ruffles that look like flower petals: http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_Satin-Side-Drape-Gown-with-Beaded-Bodice-9SAS1212_Outlet-Outlet-Bridal-Gowns-Under-$100

The bridesmaids are going to be in chiffon with flowy, flower petal-type skirts as well. The flower girl will be wearing fairy wings.

Ceremony will contain lots of Shakespeare quotes and I am researching traditional Elizabethean ceremonies to see if I can borrow something from them.

The reception will be inside the theatre itself, on the stage, and the food will all have name cards inspired by Shakespeare.

Any additional ideas would be awesome!  We are thinking we can't really go too far with this one.  It's been so much fun so far!

Re: Our Offbeat Shakespearean Wedding...

  • As a Shakespeare fan, I love this idea!  I'm actually currently teaching AMND in my class!

*It could be fun to incorporate the woodsy aspect of the play.  Maybe real tree centerpieces? (I'm planning on doing this for my wedding!)
*You and your wedding party could learn a traditional Elizabethean dance.
*Play Mendelssohn's Wedding March (written for AMND) as your recessional song
*Serve a nectar (honey wine) just like the magical love flower
*How about some donkey ears for the groom? (just kidding!)

Sounds like a fun wedding!  Enjoy the rest of your planning!
