Male attendants only?

Has anyone had or been to a wedding were there were only male attendants? I think this is traditionally called a "King's Wedding" ...FH and I are interested in exploring this option as I can trust and have way more fun with my guy friends over women!

Thanks for any info!

Re: Male attendants only?

  • I haven't been but I did have a Man Of Honor because my best friend outside of my relationship happens to be a guy and I couldn't imagine getting married without him up there with me!
  • That's a good idea I think. If you know more men then women it helps the idea. I think if you do this the wedding could have throwing a garter boquie instead of flowers.
In love since July 2010 with the man of my geeky dreams. I want to marry him by 2015. Ooooh weeee oooooh....

I was a "groomswoman" at a wedding once.  In fact, all the groomspeople were women, the only male attendant was the best man.  The groom had his sisters and some close female friends as his groomswomen.  The bridemaids wore burgundy dresses and the groomswomen wore black dresses.  It worked out wonderfully, and it was what the bride and groom really wanted!
  • Because I also had female attendants he was matched to them somewhat in attire. My female attendants were in red dresses with black sashes so my Man of Honour wore a red dress shirt and tie with black dress pants

  • Thanks everyone for the ideas!
  • My Maid of Honor is my friend Aaron and my Bridesmaid is Scott. Yes, they want the titles. I say do what you want. I didn't want to choose women to be maids just because I felt the obligation to need people with XX chromosomes.

What should my "Maid of Honor (Aaron)" wear? All the men are wearing tuxedos, bow ties and vests. I don't want my conservative guests to think Aaron is standing on the wrong side, ya know? I want people to know he's the Maid of Honor. Should my MoH and BM wear the same colors? Just have the MOH wear a larger bout?

Maybe your "bridesmaids" could wear tuxes, but have their ties and/or vests be slightly different yet still coordinate with the groomsmen. Your guests will notice the subtle difference and hopefully put two and two together!
  • Wedding Ceremony: What's a King's Wedding?

    Q.

Is there a type of wedding ceremony that's groomsmen only (i.e. no bridesmaids)?

    A.

As a matter of fact there is, and it's called a king's wedding -- both the bride and groom have male attendants (the bride's are called bridesmen). This kind of ceremony reflects the days of marriage by capture, when the groom's friends would escort the bride to her wedding to protect her from being whisked away by other suitors. If the bride has many brothers or male friends, this is a great idea. Don't feel as though you can't include any women in the ceremony, however: A female honor attendant or one bridesmaid among the bridesmen is absolutely fine!

  • We're having four attendants for our wedding.  My two attendants are a married hetero couple (my sister and BIL).  My fiance's are a ltr lesbian couple (his sister and her life partner/aka his SIL).

We're having the three women each wear the same design 'bridesmaid' dress but each in a different color (one midnight blue, one venetian gold, one silver-pewter), and the single male attendant wearing a tux to match the groom and two fathers.

    I hope this helps?
