Bridal Shower.....?

I am trying to put together a list of girls to invite to the bridal shower and I can't figure out who I should and shouldn't? I don't have any sisters and all of my aunts, uncles and cousins live out of state and won't be coming. Do you invite all of your girlfriends to your shower or just close friends and what family is around? What did you do or what will you be doing for your shower?

Re: Bridal Shower.....?

  • Are you throwing your own shower? Because that's a no-go.
You never throw a party for yourself.

If you have someone that you are trying to give a list to, so that they know who to invite...
    Shower invite = Wedding invite
    (just to make that clear)
There are many ways you can do this.
My shower only had women in the family and my wedding party. You can invite all the women that have invites to the wedding if you would like. That is more than acceptable.
You can also have your friend/family member/whomever is throwing your shower, make it a co-ed shower and have your groom there with you. That allows you to invite all the men you want (I don't think men care for this kind of pre-wedding function, so I don't reccomend it; but it's fine to do so).

I had 1 Bridal Shower, and my guest were all local friends (all of whom were also invited to the wedding).  I had a '50's Housewives/Tea Party themed Bridal Shower that my MOH hosted at her home, there were about 15 people total (I had a guest list of about 115 invited to the wedding, and I invited about 20 to the Shower and the Bachelorette).  My family lives about 1 1/2 hours away from Seattle (where I live, and most of my friends), and DH's family is all OOT (and out of State!), so that is why we didn't have any family members present at the Shower.

  • On the same token - how far out is TOO far out for a Bridal Shower?

I would think 4-5+ months before the wedding might be too early, but it really depends on the schedules of the Bride, WP, and any important family/friends who NEED to be there.

I had my Shower in the last weekend of March, and my wedding was the first weekend of May.  I had it kinda early because that was the only time my MOH (who lives on the East Coast) could make it out.

  • Hi everyone! Thank you for the advice.
I am NOT throwing my own party. I'm not etiquette savvy, but I know better than that.
I put together a list of girls who will be attending the wedding as well as family and it is over 30 people! Is that a crazy amount?!

I would say no as not everyone will necessarily be able to make it.  But ask the hostess of the party.  If they're not comfortable with that number, bring it down.
