Here's our issue...
My fiancee and I don't want more than 30 guests at our ceremony, but we're planning on having a large reception afterwards. None of his family lives more than two hours away, so he decided he didn't want to invite any of his aunts and uncles to the ceremony. For him, it will just be parents, grandparents, siblings and best friend (which adds up to 15 people). He has more than 100 people in his aunts, uncles, and cousins, so we couldn't really invite any without hurting all.
As far as my family goes, I have about 15 people total, including all aunts, uncles, and cousins. I'm not close to any but 2, and don't really want to, for lack of a better way to say it, use what little seating I have for them. The only problem is that they all live at least 4.5 hours away. We'd like to include them in the reception, but the ceremony, to us, should just be for really close family and friends.
Can anybody shed some light on what protocol is for this?
