My name is Denisha and my amazing partner is Monica. AND IT WAS DEFINITELY LOVE AT FIRST CONVERSATION!!! We actually met on a kind of gay friendship site and exchange messages and one thing led to the other...so here we are 3 mths later and she has relocated from IN to TX to be with me. We both are overwhelmed by our instant feelings!! Kind of scared us both and caught us by surprise. We have decided to legally marry in DC in Feb. and have a ceremony in 2012 in her hometown of IN. Any suggestions about the DC area would be appreciated!!! We are both over the moon and found such wonder and peace in our relationship. LOOKING FORWARD TO WAKING UP EVERY DAY OF MY LIFE WITH HER. Been a long rode for both of us, but we think this time we finally got it right! :)

Hi, My partner and  I were joined in a civil union 4 yrs on 7/17 in NJ.  We plan to marry on this same date in 2011 in WDC, which is where we are from.  I am trying to plan our special day and am unsure of how to annouce it in our save the dates. Our fam and friends are aware of our "status." It's just difficult wording.  Should we make it noticed that 7/17 is the anniversary of our civil union/dissolution of civil union/ full marriage day ?   Please, Help. Any Suggestions?

Express your attire according to how you feel and who you are!  If your the femine type. By all means where the most beautifulest dress you desire.  If your the more dominant type where the sleekest pants suit/ tux to match.  Make sure you put all of who you guys are into the wedding, decore, and attire. Its ya'lls day! Have fun....

Try The odyssey ship in WDC.  They can offer all inclusive pkgs for every step of the wedding.  If the price is within our budget we will use them in 2011 for our ceremony and reception.  If not the Jefferson memorial is at the top of our list for ceremony sites w/ odyseey ship most def as the reception venue.  Look them up online... its amazingly beautiful downtown dc and the traveled rout :)  We are in the process of planning so good luck to!

    Greetings, all!
We live in Ohio - where not only is our marriage not legal, but there is a state constitutional amendment banning it - so our ceremony is for us, our families, and our friends to celebrate our love and committment.  Since we just got engaged this week, we don't have any *real* decisions made other than our date (22 September 2012).
I am very excited to see what everyone else has experienced and what you all have planned!

My partner of three years proposed to me early yesterday morning, while she was taking me to the airport to visit my mom for a week.  It was the most romantic moment.  I am still breathless, it was a complete surprise.  She even had talked to both of my parents before she popped the question.  The best part, I get to keep reliving the moment because she wrote it out and gave it to me.  She is an amazing writer.  I don't know how many women are that lucky.

We are from Denver, Colorado, and will be getting married in summer 2012.  There is talk of the marriage issue getting on the ballot this November, so maybe it will be legal as well.

We have just started the process and it seems overwhelming.  Hoping to meet lots of cool couples here to bounce off ideas.
Everyone should be able to marry their true soulmate.

    Hi!
My fiance and I are getting married April 14, 2012. We live in NY, where we cant legally get married but they will recognize marriages from another state where it is legal, so we are planning on going to Massachuesetts before to get legally married and then having a ceremony and reception in Syracuse. We are extremely excited and cant wait! I am already feeling overwhelmed by all the decisions and things to do before though! Any advice would be welcome.

I have been trying to find a wedding planner to help me organize all my ideas but they all seem very traditional and not necessarily made for a lesbian couple. Anyone find/use one that they really liked?

My partner and i have been together now 8 years this coming March. She has asked me many times over the years if i would marry her and i always said yes. We finally sat down and seriously talked and she asked me again. So we are planning a wedding for December 31st 2012. We only came out as being "gay" about a year ago to our parents (our siblings and friends already knew). We are a bit "scared" i guess of what our parents will say.It is our wedding , an expression of our love for each other and it should not matter. But the love and approval of our parents is important to us of course also. Our parents have said many times how they accept and love us as a couple and individuals. So we shouldn't be scared, right? Still hard. I actually spilled the beans to my mom tonight and she seemed ok, but said "your telling your father!". I am daddy's little girl and it scares me a bit. I guess better to tell them sooner than later? Help!! Tongue out

HI! My partner proposed to me exactly two years ago today.  It has taken us forever to get the date set and stuff because we decided we wanted a baby too bad to wait. So i gave birth to our son in October 2010 and now our date is set for May of 2012.  I am so stoked! I know it is so far away but I just want to do everything now.  Anyone else chompin at the bit?!

Hey everyone! My name is Jaime, and my girlfriend Tricia and I are planning on having a destination wedding in 2012 (possibly April?). We aren't even engaged yet (my sister is in the process of planning her own wedding, so we are going to wait until the fall so we don't steal her spotlight!) We are secretly planning for our wedding, and it is so much fun!

Has anyone out there had a destination wedding? We have a tentative guest list of about 50 people, and are looking forward to a relaxed wedding! We are in CT, so we are going to get married legally here, then have a ceremony there. We have our hearts set on Aruba, and have already been in contact with a wedding planner (who is amazing!) and would just like to know if there are any ideas or suggestions you may have. . Thank you!! We are SO excited!!

    Thanks -

I am excited to be planning my marriage to the love of my life.  We are currently planning for 6/7/11 and I am looking forward to utilizing this board as a resource in learning how to make this all happen!

We are in Houston, Texas and obviously cannot marry here (yet).  Not sure where we will end up having the ceremony and reception, but would like to find a city that is not too difficult for our guests to travel too.  The only criteria is that we would like to find a place where marriage IS legal for our ceremony.

    Any suggestions welcome!

I'm looking for a couple who has used a travel agent to book travel for their wedding or commitment ceremony & honeymoon - to be featured in the LGBT section of a travel agent web site. The site is for travel agents only (requires an agency number and login), not for consumers. We are trying to show a real-life example of how travel agents can better serve the needs of their gay and lesbian clients. If anyone fits the above profile and would be interested in telling their story (including 1 photo), please contact me: lrounds@vaxvacationaccess.com
    Thank you!

Hello Everyone!! My partner and I are planning our ceremony 9-4-11 and I really want to have my two sister-in-laws and one of my cousins share in our special day. I would love for all three to stand beside us while weare exchaging our vows to each other. Does anyone have any idea since there are three(3) how we should have them stand so it looks nice for pics and not uneven. It is a beach wedding so its not going to be formal. Thanks so much for the time you have spent reading this!!

Hello everyone! My name is Theresa. I am marrying my soul mate Tia on July 30th. Then we are having our reception on August 6th. We are incredibly happy because New York just legalized same sex marriage. Now we can get married here instead of going Mass. We are having a small reception with only 50 people. We are trying to keep costs to the bare minimal because we are saving money to start a family. I am pretty much planning everything and the whole thing in very much DIY. Since we are both procrastinators we have so much to do between then and now.  Surprised

Hey there, we are getting married on July 30th as well.
We have been planning for 2 years and knowing that it will be legal (we live in NYC) just adds to the excitement!

After proposing to my girlfriend of 2+ years at the finish line of the LG Pride Run last weekend just hours after NY voted to legalize SSM.

We are busily planning our Spring/Fall 2012 wedding and are very excited about the wedding. I am beside myself with excitement just thinking about all the details since I love the planning that goes into a great party.

Now if we can just narrow down the venue. Does anyone have any knowledge/experience with the QUEENS FARM?

    Happy planning everyone!

Hey everyone. My fiancee Jenna proposed to me in Nov 2010, and we will be getting married in MA (where we live) July 21, 2012. Were planning on a casual fun wedding with lots of DIY and elements that make our day very "us". So far we are finding venue and vendor possibilities very welcoming and accepting, which for me being somewhat shy was a daunting task initially "coming out" to each vendor to make sure they would jive with the idea. Congrats everyone! And congrats NY!

Hi, my name is Sara Tracey and I'm an intern at the Times Union in Albany, NY. I'm working on a story about same-sex couples planning their weddings, as they'll get to tie the knot soon, and saw that you're from the Hudson Valley. Where in the valley? And, if you're in the Capital Region, would you be interested in being a subject of my story?
If you could, please email me at stracey@timesunion.com, or give me a call at (518) 454-5028.
    Thanks so much!

My partner and I are planning to travel to Boston to get married, but we do not plan on having a ceremony there. We only want to file the proper paperwork and do the bare minimum for this part of our marriage, this is because we are have a somewhat large reception when we return.
What should we know about getting married in MA?
Can we just go to the courthouse and file the paperwork?
I see there may be a 3 day waiting period that can possibly be waived, but I'm not sure how that works.
Also, can we do just the paperwork or do have to arrange a whole ceremony outside if the -I'm assuming -courthouse?-

My fiance and I are actually a hetero couple, but because his favorite uncle, one of my brothers, and my best friend are gay, it's really important to us to get married in a state in which gay marriage is legal. We feel that if they could not get married somewhere, we feel we shouldn't be able to either. We're choosing a state in which gay marriage is legal as show of support to them and to thank those states by giving them our money! In any case, the reason why I wanted to join this board is because I'm guessing some of the questions I'll have will be the same as others on this board (since like many of you,  I'm traveling from a red state to a GREAT state to get hitched).

Hi!  I'm Gene, my partner/fiance/boyfriend/whatever is Kevin.

We live in Orlando, Fl.  Since I'm betting Florida is going to be one of the last staes in the country to get legal gay weddings, we decided to take advantage of New York's Marriage Equality ruling and get married next year in Manhattan.

This board and The Knot in general have been amazing resources for us in a sea of bridal focused, heterosexist wedding information.  One big surprise is how great the new York state resources online have been.  Their website has made everything so simple and easy to understand.

    Hi everyone,

I'm currently living in Ohio, all of my BM's live in Michigan, and my fiancee' lives in Illinois, where civil unions passed a couple of months ago. I will be moving to Illinois two months prior to our wedding date of July 21, 2012. We will have a brief civil ceremony prior to boarding our flight for our Las Vegas wedding.  We are having a about 90 guests for our formal Las Vegas destination wedding, I will be wearing a white goddess gown and my partner will be in a white suit. We have been together 3 years and engaged a year as of 8/13/11. My goal is to have all the wedding details planned and everything just about paid for in January (except the final head count/payment of course, thats due 5 days prior to the wedding date)

    Hi everyone!!

My girlfriend of 2.5 years and I are planning our wedding in NYC for next August, 2012.  We got engaged before the law passed here, but now that it's passed, we're super excited! I'd love to see pics of some other lesbian weddings to get some ideas - especially since ours will be pretty untraditional and totally DIY.

    Cheers!

How about saying that it's a "celebration" of your union?  My partner and I are going to word our wedding that way as well because it's a very nontraditional affair in which there won't really be much of a ceremony.
