two grooms attire

OUr colours are a bright sapphire blue and silver.
getting married in summer backyard wedding

Our male attendents will wear black pants and white shirts (no ties, jackets or vests)
Our female attendants will be wearing more cocktail style dresses, short and fun likely in silver or pewter

We are thinking of wearing:
matching sapphire blue shirts
matching silver ties (my tie will be a bit skinnier than my partners)
I want to wear a vest and he won't

So do we do matching light grey pants
Do the pants have to match
should he wear black pants and I wear light grey?

should my vest match the pants or should I do the traditional tux look where the vest matches the tie?

I must admit I was leaning a bit to the vest matching the tie but I am starting to think I like the other look better it just limits my choices

curious what others think

Re: two grooms attire

  • This is entirely up to you.  Lots of people have nonmatching bridesmaids or groomsmen these days, and by the same token, the grooms don't have to have identical pants. Each one can wear what looks best on him.  And if you don't know which looks best on you, your best option is to try on different combinations, and see.
  • I guess the one thing also is if I want to have a matching vest and tie or rather matching pants and vest.

  • If you're not going to wear the jacket, I think the 3 piece suit look, ie the pants match the vest, looks much sharper than the tux look with the vest matching the tie. When the vest matches the tie, I think it sort of looks like you just forgot to put the jacket on. When the vest matches the pants, it looks stylish and contemporary, like the vest is a dressed down version of the jacket...but this is just my opionion, of course. As far as if you guys have to match, I echo what PPs have said: you can wear whatever you're each most comfortable in. I bet you guys will look awesome!!

  • Thanks that is what I am leaning to ie: the pants and vest matching

I have been doing some research and found a place called Studio suits which carry intersting designs where I can get the pants and vest to match.

I find that one thing I struggle with is finding a modern look where I can get both in the same fabric.
I like flat front and modern.

I am debating on the fabric.

I can get the vest to match in this one as well
thinking about the light grey chino

do you think the chino would be a bit too casual, paired with a sapphire blue dress shirt and a silver silk tie?

I was also looking at a linen on this site as well
  • Those pants are cute...I agree the flat front is very modern and stylish.  I think the light grey chino would look really nice -- perfect for a summer backyard wedding  :)  As far as whether the chino is too casual for the blue dress shirt and silver tie, you might just need to try it.  A dress shirt with a lot of satin-y sheen might not go well...but maybe, like, a poplin shirt would look nice?  Do you have the shirt and tie picked out already? If you order the pants and vest first, you can always take them to a store to try them with different shirt and tie combinations.

We know your pain! :)  We were only going to wear suits (ceremony outside, reception in) then we saw the invitations made beautifully by my sister...two great shades of green and silver.
We chose to wear our tuxes and we each bought a vest and bow tie set...one in the darker shade of green and one in the lighter (he's a fall and I'm a spring in coloring). It worked out beautifully.

Pour a glass of wine. Take to toasted sips to each other. Exhale and decide.  It's about you, not the wedding party...not about those attending...just you.  Besides...you both have to look at your 8x10 wedding photo in the living room the rest of your lives!  kisses and hugs...best of luck :)

  • Hi, I have read the blog and I do agree with you should do what "feels" right to you.  My partner and I  Canada in 2008 but have been together 22 yrs.  I now have a grown son to plan  a wedding for.  Are you planning your wedding theme  around what you are going to wear?   For instance, My guys are going formal but with a small hint of playfulness. Their colors are black and white and silver.  However, there is to be a hint of the rainbow.  Since they are wearing tuxedos for late afternoon and early evening, this will be a semi-formal to formal affair, based on what they have chosen to wear.  Old Hollywood is their theme.  I really think what you wear or the overall feel of what you have dreamed your wedding would look like, should run the show since in the end you can look back and really be happy with the overall event.  Also, I had my fairytale wedding and I want my son to have the same, but there is a limited budget.  So, I am doing it all myself, with the help of my partner and our daughter, we are on the lookout every where we go for thing that will go with the theme.  I keep I eyes on discount stores, eBay, Creig's list. etc.   I am also making the wedding cake.  It will be a formal 3 tiered white cake with a delicate cascade of rainbow stargazer lilies roses and such. However, when they cut into the cake they will find a blast of rainbow colored cake and yummy fillings.  By telling you our stories, I hope it will help you to focus in on the bigger picture, so you can choose what you will wear with fun, love and kisses.  Lin

  • Thanks for the input.

This is where we are at now

I have my clothes (I think) the blue sapphire shirt, light grey pants and matching light grey vest

We had decided to do matching grey pants....then his were no longer in stock so I have to think either buying a larger and altering..... very frustrating.

we will probably do matching black ties now because of recent changes in the rest of the wedding party

His daugher and his sons girlfriend are wearing matching black strapless chifon dresses very pretty with a bight silver ribbon

My attendent is probably going to wear black

the guys we are thinking now about black pants and light grey shirts

so I am back to the same problem.
different greys or buy and have altered or do black pants for him

the one thing I thought would be easiest is turning out to be the most painful
