Costs of Vendors

I am lucky enough to have one of those fiance's who is convinced that all vendors are out to screw people over for money and that all the costs are ridiculous. Just a quick request abbout the costs of your vendors. I don't want exact numbers, but an estimate would be very helpful. Here's what he thinks so let me know if we're close or way off!Photo: $1600 for DVD of images, engagement shoot and 8 hoursCake: approx. $500 - 2 tierDJ: approx $700 for 6 hoursThanks!

It might also be helpful to add your location just so that the numbers are easier to compare.Anyway, my wedding is in Toronto.Photo: $1,200 for 10 hours and DVD of images, no other photo shoots (though I'm fairly certain she's since raised her prices)Cake: $410 for 3 tiers with fondant / 70-80 servingsDJ: $600 for the evening, but we got a discount by booking him on the spot at a bridal show; I think my package would normally be $800

The only one I can help with is cake. I did 150 cupcakes, chocolate (half with butter cream frosting, half with chocolate ganache icing) and a small top cutting tier for around $420. That was from Mitchell's cakes.

500 is a bit off for a 2 tier cake. I have made 2 tier wedding cakes and a simple buttercream, depending on the detail involved in decoration (ie sugarpaste flowers), would run about 250-300.

Our numbers might be abit off, since the got the "friends and family" price for a few things...Photog $1000 flat for the RD, all day and night, and an album with 150 proofs.  The digital images are being turned over to my step dad (digital photog in training, one is his teachers is doing the photography) for finishing and printing.  We also ended up with a free engagement shoot and prints from our ex-(double booked)photog.DJ - $750 for all night and lighting (they're family friends)Cake - $330 for 3 tiers and about 120 servings.  This was just a good deal.  Lakeview Pastry in Burlington.  We refused to spend $500 on a cake.Officiant - $350 + $150 for gemstones.  They do some gemstone ceremony that's exclusive to them, and we get to keep them after.Oh, and we're getting married in Burlington, about 45 mins west of Toronto.

EdmontonPhoto: $1600 for 2 locations, pre-ceremony to post-ceremony and 2 formals locations, 300 in an album, all on a CD (about 500 shots). Cake: $900 including delivery and raised platter/stand-thing rental for a 4-tiered cake.  (was way too much cake for 250 ppl, but I had my heart set on a tall cake)DJ: $600 for 8 hours

One hour North of Toronto: Photos: $1500 for 500 shots on a DVD which we print off ourselves, 8 hours of coverage, custom slide show in leather case and engagement shoot (which we aren't doing so we'll either get a lower price or replace it with something else). For $5000, you get the aforementioned, thank you cards, two parent albums, guest book, slide shows, wedding album, mini wedding album...and the list goes on. For what we were looking for, I found after looking at a LOT of photographers, $1500 seemed very reasonable. And, there's no additional charge for a second photgrapher (which was a necessity to me) travel from where she lives to where the wedding is, additional locations, or touch-ups of the photos. Cake: cupcakes for us DJ: approx. $800 for 8 hours, also includes lights (ie strobe lights and a disco ball) To me, photos are THE most important, so that's where I was willing to pay more than I had originally budgeted (which was not the case as our budget was $1600). Also, our cupcakes are costing about $300 for 100 people.
