Friday evening vs. Saturday day ceremony

So, I just thought I'd get some opinions...I'm trying to decide on a Friday evening ceremony (which would be the same date that we got engaged) or a Saturday afternoon wedding.  Our plan is to have a "backyard BBQ" type of reception and I'm undecided which would be the better choice.  Any opinions?

I think I'd generally find it easier and more convenient as a guest to attend a Saturday wedding. For a Friday evening wedding, I'd have to maybe leave work early, go home and freshen up, and maybe fight through traffic to get there. Not to mention being tired at the end of a work week. That being said, you as the host will probably be able to save money by having it on Friday as opposed to Saturday. If money is really tight for you, it wouldn't be the end of the world to have it on a Friday evening. If you were a close friend, I'd go through all of that for you and still be excited. Just realize you may have lower attendance (i.e. probably only those who are really important to you anyway), and think carefully about the timing to make it as convenient as possible for your guests. There's no reason you HAVE to make your wedding day coincide with the anniversary of your engagement or anything else. The more anniversaries, the more opportunities to celebrate!

Agreed with ring_pop - Saturdays are definitely more convenient for your guests. I attended three (yes three) Friday weddings this past August... I don't work a 9-5 so it wasn't a big deal for me, but there were definitely latecomers, people who missed the ceremony and disgruntled guests who had to rush through traffic, or take off a Friday from work.Just my two cents on what I saw this summer!

I went thru the same decision. We decided to do a later Friday evening (7pm), still serving the full meal, its just a little bit later than usual. With it being at 7 now instead of 4 (that was our original plan) people have plenty of time to get there and get ready & PP is right, the people that are most important to you will make it. Ive been to Friday evening weddings and had no problem at all & yes we are saving a bit of money by having it on a Friday as well.Good luck with your decision!
