Howdy!

Hey everybody. I've been engaged since late March and have been lurking here for a while. We met four years ago in school; we had a class together and have been inseparable ever since. There's no proposal story — we'd just been talking about it for a while and then came up with a plan. We did make a day out of shopping for the ring and the watch I gave him (why shouldn't the guy get something? ;)) followed by a nice dinner out, which was fun. We're about to set a date of either September or October of 2010. We're totally set on the fall for a number of reasons, including the fact that we're hoping to avoid extreme weather since my parents got married on the hottest day of the year and his parents got married on the coldest. Everyone looks uncomfortable (but chipper!) in both sets of wedding photos. The wedding will be here in Toronto. We're getting married at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church (at St. Clair and Mt. Pleasant) and our prep courses are in March. We don't have a reception site yet, but we're working on narrowing it down to four or five to go check out in person.Anyway, I'm glad to be here. If anybody has any experience with or suggestions about fall weddings and/or brunch/lunch receptions (which is what we really want), I'm all ears!

I agree - I got my FI new golf clubs after we got engaged - his friends were SOOO jealous! Happy planning - a fall wedding will be beautiful and not too hot/cold!

Hello! Welcome and congratulations! I'm having a mid summer wedding (July 24th) . Originally we had it set for May, but pushed it forward a bit in hopes of an outdoor ceremony. We haven't signed our venue yet but are pretty close (I just need to finalize a detail or two before I commit). We're getting married in Brampton.

Hi, welcome and congrats! How many guests are you looking at for your brunch reception? There are some fantastic brunch restaurants around town but of course it all depends on the capacity you need.I got married on what was probably one of the hottest days this summer! Remember back in August, those couple of really hot, humid weeks? Good times.Let me know if you want to be added to the Canada Knotties List (see announcement at the top of this board for more details). :)

We're looking at 120. We really have to sit down and hash out the guest list with our parents (my FI's parents live in another province so he won't be seeing them until Thanksgiving) but everyone seems to think that's a good number. All that's left is figuring out who those people are. It's so backwards, but it'll work out.We just formally set our date (10/02/10). The wedding is at 10 a.m. so that we'll be able to have the lunch reception we've wanted from the very beginning. We're still venue-hunting but we have an appointment to see the Estates of Sunnybrook on Thursday. Does anybody have any experience with them?

We've booked the Vaughan Estates for September 25, 2010!  We're having a morning ceremony also, followed by a lunch reception.  I've only been to Sunnybrook for corporate events but the food was delicious.  My brother and SIL have attended tonnes of weddings and both agree that the best intimate wedding they went to was at Sunnybrook. Also, if you're looking for a nearby location for photos (in addition to Sunnybrook), Glendon College (of York University) is literally just up the street and has great backdrops.

I'm not wearing a veil.   It's really just NMS.  My aunt actually didn't wear a veil 22 years ago, and it's getting more and more common.  So don't feel like you have to wear one; it's really not that weird not to.

Wow, sorry ladies.  The knot ate a post that I was trying to put on my local board and put it on this really old post over here.  Mod - definitely delete if you can!
