Christmas in July Wedding?

Hello Everyone,

I need some advice.  Most of my family lives in Florida and the family I do have that live here live about an hour or so away (I live in Illinois).  My fiance's family mainly lives an hour or more away from us.  We had planned on having a Christmas wedding in our church here.  The problem is my sister has 4 kids and is unable to afford the trip up here around Christmas time and they don't want to drive because the weather could be bad.  We have also been looking into photographers on Craigslist and found one that is very inexpensive, but he would have to travel an hour and said he worried about weather as well at that time of year.  So, my question is...what about about a christmas in july wedding.  I already have my heart set on a Christmas theme, because I already bought all the poinsettias and snowflakes and already started making things.  What do you guys think?  Would it be ok to have Christmas in July?

I'm desperately in need of some advice.  Let me also say that we don't have the money to fly anyone anywhere as we are both now on unemployment.

Thanks for any advice.

Jamie

Hmm, this is tricky. Technically you can do whatever the heck you want! It is your wedding. But, I have to admit, I think a Christmas themed wedding in July is a little odd.

If it was me I guess these would be my 2 options:

    1. Have the July wedding. Find a new theme (you could still use reds and greens??) and use what you can but make it not Christmasy. Could you sell your Christmas stuff on Craigslist come the holidays? Or use it at Christmas time? Do you have a lot of $$ invested in it already that you can't afford to lose?

    2. Keep your Christmastime wedding. Hope the weather will be nice enough for your sister to drive. Maybe just she could afford to fly up? I wouldn't worry about the photographer. If he is from the area-ish, shouldn't he be accustomed to the weather?

I would not change my entire wedding date when 50% of the reason is over a photographer.  I'm with Katanne's option 2:  have your wedding on Christmas as planned and hope for the best weather possible.

I would think it strange if someone had a Christmas in July wedding.  Like everyone else said, though, you can do what you want!  Personally, I'd either change to July and do things that fit the season or I'd keep it at Christmas.

I agree, a little odd. I would enjoy it, of course, but the theme seems odd. Just scrap the snowflakes and the poinsettas or else keep them and keep the date.

We do "Christmas in July" Sunday at our church, but that's also to get everyone hyped about participating in the annual christmas pageant.  I think it could be really unique as a wedding theme.  If you want to do it, go for it!

What about keeping your theme, but having it in November?  The weather may not be QUITE as bad if you go 1 month before the holiday season, but people would halfway expect a Christmas theme, right?

So sorry you guys are going through unemployment - I'll keep you in my prayers!

Well, we've decided to do Christmas in July for the wedding.  It is the only way we could stick with our theme and make sure everybody got to IL safely.  We went to my FI's family's annual St. Patty's day party yesterday and everybody seemed excited about the theme.  It's a little off beat, but then again him and I are a little off beat I guess you would say, so I think it will work just fine.  Thanks for all the advice ladies.  I wish you all well.

P.S.  I am still in some pain, but am feeling a lot better than last week.  I have my doctor's appointment wednesday, so we'll see if they have the results back from the biopsy.

So is it going to be this  July or next July?

PSA. Heres is a little advice if it is next July  . Don't buy to much decor now. Honestly there are so many ladies I have talked to on the knot for the last year that completely changed some of there ideas  from start to finish and got stuck with a whole bunch of stuff they didn't love even when they 'loved ' the idea months before . I think getting an idea is great but maybe hold off on the purchases until about 6 months  ( right around christams time) till the wedding.

I think its a great idea if you don't do to much christmas-y .
