I just realized I tithe on all monitary gifts, but not usually on item gifts (this is my pattern in the past).
FI and I were discussing this the other day....he thinks it's weird to tithe on one, but not the other.
If you tithe, how do you handle gifts? We have/will be getting a fairly substantial amount of tangible gifts, along with monitary gifts (they're already starting to come in - I'm in shock!) Do you tithe just on the monitary gifts? the value of tangible gifts? or not on gifts at all?
I know it's a weird question - and a personal choice at that. I promise not to judge anyone on your answers - I'm just curious as to how other people handle it.

To be honest with you, I never heard or thought of tithing on tangible gifts. How would you know the cost to take 10% (ex. if someone got the gift on sale or not on your wedding registry).
In my personal experience, if I have received money in the past (ex. birthdays), I had not tithed on it....but then again I never thought of it. I always tithed on the money I made, not what was given to me. I saw what was given to me as a blessing.
Hope this helps.

This is a good way to view it. When you give your time or money to someone who needs it it is a blessing to them. I would not expect someone to tithe what I gave to them.

i agree with this.
however, at times i may give extra as an offering, but not as part of my tithes. i believe tithing in the Bible is only referring to income? i could be wrong though.
i actually have a friend who believes that tithing a set amount (such as 10%) is no longer necessary because it was an OT law that didn't carry over after Christ's death and resurrection. he feels that you should only give what your heart leads you to give (like it says in that NT verse which reference i cannot remember off the top of my head...).
i'm not sure how i feel about that. i think 10% still applies, but only to income.
