Family Bible

I was at a wedding once where the bride's parents and groom's parents signed a family Bible, and then te couple signed. I REALLY want to do this at our ceremony, however we do not have a family Bible. So I ave two questions. 1. Do you think this is a stupid unity ceremony? Should I stick to the candle and be done with it? 2. Where can I get a nice family Bible that doesn't have a giant picture of Jesus' face on it? Thanks in advance!!

We actually did a Cord of Three Strands ( www.godsknot.com ) and then had a Marriage Covenant.  During the ceremony, the two of us, our parents, bridal party, and pastors all signed it and then we had it at the back of the church afterwards for everyone else to sign.  I don't think a Family Bible is stupid at all.

We were given the Family Life Marriage Bible as an engagement gift. It was the Bible that we had one of our ring bearers carry in during the wedding, and it was placed on our communion table during the ceremony. There are pages in the front with family trees and such - your parents could sign their names there, or everyone could sign the blank inside flap.

Inside there are devotions for couples, answers to parenting questions, and tons of tips, quotes, and notes for the married couple. And the cover is beautifully elegant - ours is a rich brown imitation leather (softcover). No, I don't think it's stupid.

You could always get any hardcovered bible and then make your own cloth jacket for it in a colour or pattern that you like.  None of my bibles have Jesus' face on them!

I don't think this is stupid at all. I'm actually glad you posted this. I've never seen that done before.  I was thinking about doing the Unity Chord, but wasn't too sure because my F tends to shy away from "crafty" things. I also wasn't sure about it because it seems to have potential to be awkward for us. Signing a family Bible seems like a perfect idea for us so I discussed it with my F and we're pretty sure this is what we're going to do. Thank you for posting this. :-) I think it's really cool because it brings in the old fashioned family record keeping, keeps God at the center, and has the unity aspect. It's perfect.

thanks so much everyone! We have decided on the family life marriage Bible! We are going to sign along with our parents and then during the reception, we are going to ask our guests to circle and initial their favorite verses, out verses they have found most beneficial un their lives and marriages. We hope to pass out on to our children when they get married :
