Modest BM dresses

Hi girls. I tried asking Chit Chat but they sent me here.

I'm looking for modest BM dresses. My MOH is Mormon and I want to accomodate her. We decided to do 3 different color dresses, so we can't do three different dresses as well.

We're going with a Roman/Grecian/Flowy theme. Do  you girls have any insight?

What are you looking for by "modest"? I think my girls' dresses are modest, but it depends on what you are looking for (sleeves, neckline, length, etc.).

Little to no cleavage, nothing hoochy in the skirt, and shoulders covered (cap sleeves or more)

She's not TOO particular (actually she doesn't care, but in day-to-day she's not in a turtle neck and floor length black skirt) but I really just want her to feel comfortable.

Everyone else's ideas (wear a sweater, get a pashima, etc) I feel will make her feel like an odd ball and that's so not my desire.

Not sure what length you are set on, but Target has some "bridesmaid" dresses that have modest tops and good skirt lengths.   CLICKY

PC Mary bridesmaids gowns are quite beautiful and a lot of their pictures show optional things that can help create modesty if the dress is too much for you.  Here is one dress (long) that has a bolero:

My BM's are wearing David's Bridal #83312.  My MOH may or may not be ordering the matching bolero for modesty.  I've left it up to her.

IMO, the bolero is a very nice way to cover up without having to get a different dress for the one BM.

Hope that helps!  If you're concerned about modesty, the biggest thing to remember is that clothing can be ATTRACTIVE on a female without being REVEALING.  It is a fine balance, but it can be done.  I wear pretty modest clothing almost ALL of the time and I don't usually have problems shopping.  :-)

Maybe she could get a flowly cap sleeve added to hers or everyones? If you are going for the Grecian look, maybe a seamstress could take a bit of fabric from the skirt and add a butterfly type sleeve. It depends on the neckline you choose.

You could have all your girl wear some sort of shrug.

I would recommend starting to look in regular stores and not BM stores. (We got my BM dresses at Macy's).

My biggest issue is I need something that doesn't look purposefully modest. Not sure if that makes sense. My other two BMs are not modest dressers at all. Like. At all. So I need to find a balance.

A lot of those dresses were gorgeous! I'm checking out all the sites now

doesn't look purposefully modest... I think my mom and dad would say "you want to look appropriate but not dowdy."  :-)  

I'll keep looking, and if I find anything I'll post it!

Ok, I put on my costumer hat and went looking for dresses that meet the grecian/roman but with covered shoulders criteria.  The best ones I found are:

there are a few makers who made modest gowns.  unfortunatley, they arent mainstream and not many brides want to use them.

i cannot stand the strapless trend.  it was just with bridal gowns, but now it seems teh majority of BM dresses are strapless too.  it honestly makes me want to decline being in anyone's wedding until the trend passes.

I agree too. It's sooo hard to find stuff that's pretty and modest for weddings. My dress isn't strapless but it will still need alterations to make it more modest and comfertable for my taste.
