Tim Tebow

It seems like everyone has an opinion on this, so what better place to put it than on here?

How do you feel about Tim Tebow? Are you excited about how well(ish) he has been doing as Denver's quarterback? Do you think he is unfairly treated in the media?

Tim Tebow famously wore "John 3:16" on his eye black during the 2009 BCS Championship game; he threw for 316 yards and averaged 31.6 yards per completion, and the TV ratings for the last half hour of Sunday's game were 31.6. I saw those numbers and was like, "Whoa ...."

I think the reaction to him is strange.  The international/soccer equivalent is Kaka, but even though the rest of the world is supposedly less religious than America, Kaka gets less criticism than Tim Tebow.  It's sad that being a good role model and standing up for your beliefs isn't respected.  Sadly, I think America is a very polarized society...

H and I both LOVE Tim Tebow!! I bought H Tim's book for Christmas and he really likes it. Our team is the Steelers and if you've ever met a Pittsburgh fan, you know we take football really seriously. So you can understand why people were mad at me when I said I couldn't root against Tim Tebow when we played them last week. I am so happy he's doing well and showing the world his faith. There are so many "role models" our there with no morals. It's refreshing to see someone like him setting a good example. I pray for him sometimes- that he will continue to stay true to who he is and not get swept up in the fame and all the negative things that come with it. I read somewhere that he is still a virgin. You don't find that much among young professional athletes these days. I am definitely on Team Tim!

I think it is so cool that he has done so well in college and now moving onto the pros.  I especially like that he has succeeded after being home schooled.  He seems very genuine with his faith and I think that people see that.  It must be very difficult to be in the public eye like he is and having so much pressure on him.  I wish him all the best and if the Broncos end up meeting my team (the Ravens) in the AFC championship game, I might be cheering for him.

As a graduate of FSU and a huge Seminole fan, at first, I didn't give him much attention since he went to my rival school (UF). However, once I heard about his stand for his faith, he became the only Gator I've ever cheered on.  It's good that he's doing pro-ball now b/c I don't have to worry about rivalries

I don't typically talk about this with too many people because of the "hysteria" but I knew Tebow personally in college. He was friends with a really good friend of mine. I saw/chatted with him at parties, dinners, casual get togethers. 

He is an INCREDIBLE athlete and a decent guy. Sometimes it seems like he has let the "fame" get to him and doesn't always portray his "Christian Attitude" in front of his friends. But, that was easy to do in our little college town of Gainesville where people would MOB him. 

However, I could never know what's in his heart. I truly hope it's not all an act. 

My father loves Tebow and being a Gator, I at least appreciate his talents on the field and in front of the camera- he is incredibly likeable there!

I don't pay much attention to him.  Maybe it's the hardcore Alabama/Florida football rivalry, haha.

I don't follow football.  Seriously, I bring a book when DH and I meet up with his friends to watch a game.  I just want to see people and eat.  But I like Tim Tebow.  It's so rare (IMO) for an athlete to be in the media for being a good guy.  I know that a lot of kids grow up idolizing sports figures, and I'm glad there's finally a guy out there who can really be a good role model. 

I know my little brother always loved Michael Vick.  Then we found out about the dog fighting.  My brother knows that that's wrong, but I worry that there are others out there who think "a famous athlete did this, so it's ok."

I'm neutral? I don't hear much about him since I don't have a TV and don't follow football. And I don't hear about him on NPR in the car

I'm glad he's living his faith out loud. I try to remember to pray for him when I hear people talk about him, because he's so publically reflecting our faith, and I hope he can authentically witness. But I think authentic Christians are the ones most likely to foster criticism, that is, persecution, so I take it as a good sign for his internal life, and I hope it's good. I feel a fondness for him, but I am a root-for-my-team football fan, and my team is the Carolina Panthers. So since they're out, I really don't care anymore.

Kurt Warner was like Tim Tebow in that when the press would interview him after games, he always gave the glory to God.  I just don't remember hearing that much about him then.  But the media has really latched onto Tebow and I feel like they have really made a huge deal out of his faith.  Like I said, I wish him all the best.  I just hope that he doesn't allow his fame to affect his faith.

<div>I think they've latched onto him because of the obvious public prayer thing, which is the reason I don't care for him.  I hate the grandstanding of "look at me, I'm praying."  Maybe he doesn't mean it to come across that way, but that's how it looks.  I went to a Christian college, my team prayed together before every game, but we didn't do it in a way that would draw attention to ourselves because it wasn't done for other people's attention.</div>
