QOTW - Week of 2/20 - Reception Venue

Where are you having (or where did you have) your reception?  Why did you choose this venue?  Do you have a link to it from the website or a picture of it?  Did you have dinner? snacks? cake and drinks?  What are you looking forward to eating (or what did you like the best)?

Our reception will be at the church along with the ceremony. They'll be in the same room so there'll be some set up in between but its really pretty inside and has huge vaulted ceileings :) i don't have any pictures though.
Instead of doing a dinner (don't have the money for it) we're doing a lot of snack/appetizer type foods and then cake!! Which I'm really excited for, even though we haven't picked out what kind we want yet. I'm just a sweets girl :)

We're having ours in a hotel ballroom about 15 minutes from the church.  I'm Conservative Southern Baptist, so there's no dancing allowed in the church at all.  We're just playing Michael Buble, Frank Sinatra, etc, but we wanted to have a first dance, dance with out parents, and give guests the option of dancing with their spouses/SOs, as well.  I don't have any pics of it...ask me again on June 12th..ok...maybe June 18th. ;)  The venue is $650, and includes access to the room from 7am-midnight, use of the kitchen fridges, sinks, and counters (not stoves), and all tables, chairs, linens, silverware, glassware, and china.

We're doing a Mocktail/Appetizer hour while we're doing pics at the church.

Food depends on how many RSVP.  The room can hold 670 with chairs and scattered 6ft round tables and taller tables, but only 313 with tables and chairs.  We're inviting 408, so if at least 95 people can't make it, we'll do a buffet dinner.  If we have more, we'll do very heavy hor d'oeurves.

We're also doing a candy buffet.

Not sure what I'm looking forward to food wise.  I tend to get more anxious AFTER I give a presentation/take a test/sing at church, etc, so I think the nerves of the day will just be catching up with me at that point.  Might end up taking a trip through McD's on the way to the hotel we're staying at that night (i.e.- not the one allllll of our OOT guests, bridal party, and his family are staying at...not a chance).

<div>We stopped at the Taco Bell right around the corner from our hotel.  I did eat a little bit at the reception but there were so many people I wanted to see that I probably didn't end up eating much and so we were both really hungry after our 1 1/2 hour drive to the hotel.</div>

I forgot to answer for myself (oops).  Our wedding and reception were on the same grounds in different buildings.  We got married at a YMCA camp (www.silverbay.org) and the reception was in the Inn there.  We chose it because it was a central location for our guests, I wanted to get married by a lake in the Adirondacks (NY) and I fell in love with the chapel.  It met all of my requirements and it was really beautiful there at that time of the year.

    I'll post a few pictures:

The lounge where we had the reception had a beautiful 14 ft fireplace.  This is my niece/flower girl.

It also had a nice hardwood floor for dancing!

We had a buffet dinner of BBQ baby back ribs, chicken, baked potato, corn on the cob, salad, rice pilaf, baked beans and then hot dogs/hamburgers for the kids.  I think I had a veggie burger, salad and rice pilaf.  I wish I had eaten more.  We also had chicken & pineapple skewers, meatballs, veggies w/ dip and fruit w/ dip for the cocktail hour but I didn't get any of it.  I had the piece of cake that DH fed me and then our best man fed me cake too (as a joke).  We had a piece to take with us.

I really wish we had gotten plates of food to take with us!

iamjoes-- I love the fireplace & the outside look of your venue! Very pretty.

I'm getting married & having the reception at the Landmark Center downtown St Paul. It is a government owned building that used to be a courthouse. It is unbelievably gorgeous. I am going for the old elegance feel, and this place has it perfectly:

This is the main hall that I am having my ceremony & reception:

And since I will be getting married in the winter, the park outside the front will still have holiday lights up, like this:

I can't wait! :) We are having a late evening ceremony with a dessert reception. I'm very excited to decide all the different desserts and finger food. :)

Here is our reception venue!!  There aren't a lot of pics of the inside of the Timberlake Suite where we will be, (they're on my phone and I'll upload them later this week if I can!) but hopefully this will show you a bit.

Our reception was in the church fellowship hall.  Originally I wanted to have it elsewhere because in my head, church fellowship hall =/= classy and elegant.  However, with the number of guests and with the weather here in December, we decided staying in one place was best.

We served a buffet dinner with breads, cheeses and meats to make sandwiches, salmon spread and crackers, lasagna (both meat and veggie) a few salads, grilled veggies, fruit, stuffed mushrooms...there was more, but I can't remember what.  H and I didn't get to eat much but the caterer let us take the food home and we had some the next day.  The stuffed mushrooms and veggie lasagna were delicious!  We also had cake.  For drinks we served water, hot and cold apple cider, lemon-peach punch, coffee, and soda.

    Everyone's venues look beautiful!!

Emily- 408 guests = wow! Sounds like you guys are a popular couple. Very cool!

Our reception is at a banquet facility about 15 mins from the church. It just opened in 2004, so it's fairly new! When we went to look at it, we had never heard of it, but then after we booked it, I found out that a girl who just started working with me (who I have since become very close friends with) had her reception there and so did a co-worker's son!

We chose it because it's pretty, can accommodate our guests comfortably, has an elevator for FI's grandmas who have a hard time getting up steps (there are only like 5 steps anyway) and has really nice bathrooms (that was important to me) and a wonderful bridal suite. We will have an appetizer hour while we get our pictures and then will have a buffet dinner and dancing. The buffet line is hidden behind doors, so it's like its own little room, which is cool. Cake for dessert, of course. Also, it is a tradition around where I live to have a ton of homemade cookies at the reception, so lots of family members and friends will be baking those (I always thought that the cookie thing was done everywhere, but I just learned that it is only around here!)

Here is a pic of the front:

100 of them are just aunts & uncles and cousins (first and second), none of whom live more than 4 hours away...80 of them live no more than an hour away.  Crazy huge Southern family.  150ish are from the two churches I grew up in and family friends (who are all in town).  100 are FI's family and family/church friends, who are a little farther away, and 50 are our college friends.  Our university is also only an hour away, so many of them will probably come.

    That's awesome!!
  • Ours is outside in Mammoth Spring State Park at The Underlook:

Why did you choose this venue?  FI and I went to walk around it and he looked at me (joking) and said, "Hey we could get married here."  I looked at him serious and said, "Ok!"  And it stuck.  :)
Did you have dinner? snacks? cake and drinks?  We're having dinner across the street, then cake and punch.
What are you looking forward to eating (or what did you like the best)?  Hmmm... I think the chocolate cake.  :)
