Church of Christ?

FI and I met as Mormons in 2004 but have since left the church together. (I'm leaving it at that, we don't have any hard feelings). FI's best friend was a member of the Church of Christ, so FI got to know a few people in that church, including a pastor. FI's friend died in a car accident in 2005, and FI hasn't had anything to do with that church since. Since we are no longer Mormon, we want a standard Christian wedding and since FI knows the pastor, we are going to have him perform the ceremony.

I don't really know a whole lot about the Church of Christ, but I know they have their music a capella. If we have a Church of Christ pastor perform our wedding, can I walk down the aisle to music? I've done a little research about it, and some things I've read said they walked down the aisle to the pastor reading scripture instead of music. Well, music is my life and I want to walk down the aisle to some music, is that going to be a problem? We are meeting with the pastor this week, but I wanted some background info beforehand.

I did not know about the Church of Christ not using musical instruments before.  I just googled it and now I know more.  I would recommend talking to the pastor about it as some churches may have slightly different opinions than others.  Will you have your ceremony in a Church of Christ or is the pastor from the church but performing the ceremony elsewhere?  That may make a difference.  I would express to him your interest of including music and ask what restrictions there may be.

We are having the ceremony at a chapel used for weddings. There aren't any church services there. Here's a pic becuase I love it so much. :)

It seems like since you are not having the wedding in a Church of Christ, it would be your decision about whether or not to use music.  Having said that, the pastor may not appreciate having music if that is not customary in his church so I would definitely talk to him about it before making a decision.  Sorry that I couldn't be more helpful.

It sounds a bit like primitive baptists, if there isn't any music.  Primitive Baptist churches don't use musical instruments and if they sing it is entirely a capella.  To each their own, I suppose.  Definitely talk with the pastor about it.  It might be that they allow prelude music or something for weddings if it's by certain composers that the church has already approved.  Sorry I can't be of more help.  Good luck!!

I forgot to post last night, but we met with the pastor yesterday and I asked him and he said that it won't be a problem. Phew!

That's a relief!  Yay!  That is the musician in me though... haha, we have music for everything in my life!! :-)

I know, right? I was relieved, and FI was like "of course they'll allow music!" I told them I just wanted to make sure, and the pastor seemed thankful I asked. I really like him, so that's good. :)
