Still "homeless"

We looked at more houses the last week. We got our hopes up on one and it was sold literally 20 minutes before we looked at it . It was the first one in 6 months we've wanted to buy.

I've been trying to find us a decent apartment and have come up empty handed. Wedding is in 61 days but my son goes back to school on the 27th of this month. If i can even find an apartment for a year in this district then I'm gonna have to move him if we find something in the next year / even the next few months.

We are at our wits end... We know it's in God's hands but honestly we are homeless because we are just not going to have a place to move into 2gether and we'll end up having congical visits after Oct 13th.. ..

And he is still trying to find a job in my area/surrounding area as well ... And that hasnt worked yet either ...

And i start classes next week ... Yikes...

  • Wow.  you can't find *anything* in your area to rent?  That's amazing to me - the rental market here has tons of options because no one can sell their houses, so everyone rents out their former home.

What town are you looking in and what is your budget?  Maybe we can help with some ideas of where else to look for options.

I'm sorry this is such a struggle for you!
  • I am sorry to have read this and pray that God will make a way for you and your son. I find it shocking as well that there is nowhere to rent. Could you possible rent a basement apartment, shared accomodations, a room even? I know this not the ideal living arrangements you want but something until you get something better since your son is starting school soon.
  • I was surprised too! Here there's a ton of options! What's your criteria for decent rental options?

  • It's all about budget... We can be paying more to rent then a mortgage would be... And I cant go too far from work/school because of childcare...And if my FI dosnt finda job near me he will have to commute 45 min if i stay here intown...

Like i cant find anywhere in our budget that even has a washer dryer hookup .. seriously people are nutz around here ...

  • Sorry to hear this. I will say a prayer that everything works out for you. It will! God will bring you to the right place.

<div>45 minute commutes are normal where we are. What about basement apartments or people renting out their MIL suites? Does your school offer any housing for families? </div>

  • My school is also 45 min away which is way too far for FI.. My town is the middle for him and I to work /school .

I havnt come across anyone advertising those types of apartments. I get that to some people 45 min is normal but with the price of gas right now it dosnt make your paycheck stick around long enough as well ..

  • 45 minutes is pretty standard here too. We are paying more than we would for a mortgage BUT we dont have to pay taxes or maintenance. We have 4 dogs and 2 cats so we had a hard time but we found a house in less than 2 months. Have faith it will work out. You just may have to change some expectations.

  • My commute to work right now is about 35 minutes and I'm moving this weekend to a house 10 minutes farther out.  45 minutes is pretty standard here as well.  I hope you guys find something soon!
