Hello ladies,
I have posted a few times before, but have been more of an observer on this board. However, this morning, I am in need of some prayers and love.
My grandfather (we call him "Papa") went to the doctor this week after months of being tired, sick, losing tons of weight, and even having blood in his stool. My mom and Nana (his wife, my grandmother) finally convinced him to go to the doctor, something he only agreed to because it has gotten to the point where he has no energy and he wants to get some of that back.
Well, my mother called me this morning to let me know that it was determined that he has colon cancer. He does not go to the doctor, and only started having the symptoms three months ago, so they think that he has probably had it for two years or so now. It has started spreading to his liver and lymphnods. They are going to take him to the surgeon and oncologist, but these are largely measures being taken to keep him as comfortable as possible as he knows that death is coming.
I was married about a month and a half ago, so I am so blessed that he was around to be there for my wedding and celebrate with us. But still it is never easy to know that my Papa is approaching death. I still have all of my grandparents, so he will be the first I lose. It is hard to imagine life without him and I am just trying to enjoy the life he has left and remember the greatness of his character.
What I really need is prayers for peace for my family. I know my mom is really struggling with this and my Nana is trying to prepare for life without him. We are doing everything we can to prepare, but I know that the reality is really going to hurt.
Sorry for the length, I just feel like I need to share this with people right now... just to process things and begin to deal with it all.
