H said the guy who interviewed him was really nice, but said that he felt H was more qualified for the position one step down from the position for which he applied. It would be a lateral move, and H isn't totally ready to make a lateral move to a new company. So now we're waiting to see what happens at his current company. It's very possible he'll be offered a lateral move at his current company, which he would take.
All in all, it was good for him to get out there and take the risk, and I hope it leads to more looking and applying and may lead to a new opportunity.
