Christian Weddings

This Week

What's up ladies?  Anyone have special plans for this week?  I noticed in Roll Call that a few ladies are getting married, but I don't know if they post anymore.  We are celebrating Thanksgiving at work on Tuesday.  DH leaves Wednesday for a basketball tournament until the following Monday.  I was going to go with, but his parents invited themselves along and I didn't think I would do well hanging out with them in the car for 18 hours (round trip) plus the time during the tournament so I decided to stay home.  So I'll be spending some quiet time here at home next weekend.  Maybe I'll do some Christmas shopping!

So what is everyone else up to?  Any wedding checks to get done this week?

I feel like I have a million things to do...the list hasn't gotten any longer, I just haven't done anything on it haha. I am hoping that one of my roommate's days off this week we can go to the florist finally and get that checked off. I have to call a second cake baker to arrange a tasting, and research hotel rooms to block off for guests. I was also going to start a list for FI of the things that we'll need to be changing once we're married (or start before) like insurance, our banks, checks, car titles if we wanted to do that...all that stuff. Maybe as a married knottie you can jumpstart all the brains of us unmarried ladies of all the stuff that needs to get taken care of that isn't directly wedding related, all that paperwork!! :)

Ah this week.  this week is NUTS for me at work, so I don't think I'll get too much WR done.  I do have to call the photographer to make sure he's on board, and I need to make initial contact with the DJ for the reception... Hopefully I will keep my sanity!

</div><div>Our cars are in our own names still.  I kept my maiden name on my title until I traded in my car about 9 months after the wedding.  When we bought the new car, the salesman (someone I trust) suggested that we put just my name on it because it restricts the liability to just me if I was in an accident.</div><div>
</div><div>We are currently in the process of refinancing the house so that DH can be added to the house title.  We could have filed a quit claim deed with the county office of records to add him, but the interest rate was so much lower and now we'll pay off the house 7 years early.</div><div>
</div><div>To change your name legally, the first step is to receive your official marriage license.  That took about 10 days for us.  It came a few days after we returned from the honeymoon.  Once you get that, you can file for a new social security card with your married name.  I went to our local social security office with the marriage license and a form that I found on the social security site.</div><div><a rel="nofollow" href="http://www.socialsecurity.gov/online/ss-5.pdf">http://www.socialsecurity.gov/online/ss-5.pdf</a></div><div>
</div><div>It was pretty easy to change my name on credit cards, frequent flier accounts, electric company, phone company, etc.  I just made a list of everything and then called each company to ask how to change the name.</div><div>
</div><div>Regarding a bank account, we waited until we got the marriage license and opened a joint savings account under my new name.  Then a few weeks later I changed the name on my existing account and added DH to that account too.  Both of our paychecks  (most of them anyway) go into the checking account that I had prior to marriage.  We each have savings accounts where part of our checks go so that we have spending money and don't have to tell each other about really small expenses (day to day spending).  I just felt that having ATM cards to a single account would be a nightmare to keep track of.</div><div>
</div><div>That's all I can think of right now!  I was glad to have it all behind me!</div>

Nope!  My second!  But I already found her the most adorable onesie!  She's already a day later than her older sister (who is about to find her life dramatically changed!)

However, if she doesn't come today, pray she doesn't come until friday or saturday!  My brother is a pilot and they wouldn't give him the time off work, so he has to fly out tomorrow and return 40hrs later.

I know it's late, I haven't been on here. But, tomorrow I am going with my maid of honor to look at bridesmaid dresses. We are going to narrow it down to three styles and then the weekend after Thanksgiving, all my bridesmaids are going to go and choose the one out of the three that they like best (they will all wear the same style, but it will be their choice, not mine).

Thursday my fiance and I are going to our first cake tasting. Yum!

Saturday is a game night with some friends and Sunday is church and watching football.. Next week is the busy one though. 20-some family members are coming in from out of town for Thanksgiving/ my pap's 90th birthday!

    Everyone have a good week!

AshNoel - I like your idea of having the MOH select 3 styles and then everyone pick one together (besides the bride) -- makes a lot of sense if we want them to be happy with their attire for that special day!  I may steal that idea from you.  :-)

First cake tasting?  wow, I'm NOWHERE close to that, but then again I'm a july bride, so I might be farther away than you.  Where's your wedding date ticker?!?!
