Shoe Question

So I have begun the search for my bridal wedding shoes. I found a pair at David's Bridal that were really pretty. They were a dressy flip flop. But I was wondering how they would work underneath my dress (when I find one) with all of the extra material? Do you ladies have any advice?

Also ladies who wore a heel. Was it that bad?? Because everybody is telling that I should wear flip flops instead of heels. So once again I'm confused and don't know what to do.

I'm not the best person to ask because I LOVE heels! My wedding shoes have a 4 and a half inch heel! (which is honestly higher than I wanted.. I wanted like a 3 inch heel or so, but I could only find the color and style I wanted in 4 and a half inches haha). I bought flip flops for the reception, but I had to find flip flops with a really high platform because my heels were so high and I didn't want my dress to drag on the ground. I am planning on wearing my heels for the ceremony, pictures, intro at reception, first dance, cake cutting, dinner, father/daughter dance and then put the flip flops on for the rest of the night.

I wouldn't get a shoe until you get a dress.  You might end up needing no heel at all, or a certain height heel in order to make the dress the correct length.

That being said, I wore flip flops toward the end of the reception and had no problem with it.  My dress never got caught under my feet or on my shoes.  I wore blue flats for the wedding, and at the end of the evening, my feet were pretty sore.  I couldn't imagine wearing heels for it all day long.

Nope. But the ceremony will be outside on the grass, so I'm also worried about wearing heels and sinking into the ground.

Gotcha. You could always get some dressy flats instead of flip flops

My husband is 12in taller than I am so I wore heels (almost 5 inches). I wore them the whole night until we got in the car. Right at the end my feet started to hurt, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. 

If you want to wear a heel and avoid sinking, I would get something in a wedge. I have seen some really cute ones lately. 

I agree with PP and would wait on shoes until you find a dress because you might change your mind.

I'm wearing David's Bridal "Lindy" (champagne color, d'orsay style shoe).  The only thing i wish it had is a strap across the ankle.  I don't want to have to bend down to fix my shoe if it comes off or anything, and I definitely don't want to have to ask anyone to do that for me!  :-)

Hey!  I'm always drawn to a shoe topic...

I wore 4" heels with a 3/4" platform.  I got them from DSW online.  The brand/designer Audrey Brooke has shoes in wide width and they have extra cushion on the ball of your foot.  I lasted 6 of 8 hours till I had to wear flip flops.


 Pay no mind to my pasty pale-ness.

Only true if you're not doing alterations.

Do you wear heels regularly (or semi regularly)? I know for me I really like wearing heels, but I can only handle them for a few hours and then I just want to take them off. I tried on a lot of shoes before I found the ones I liked. They're super comfy wedge heels.

I guess I didn't word that very clearly.  I meant that the dress could be close enough to the right length that a certain height of heel (1/2 inch, or 2 inches or whatever) could make the dress just the right length.  And then you'd be able to save the money on hemming, instead of shortening the dress 2 inches or whatever.  Or, on the flip side, if you buy 3 inch heels and find that your dress only requires 1.5 inch heels, you're going to need different shoes.

I was one of those who managed to save on the alteration fee by getting shoes the right height (and adding a little extra fluff with a crinoline).  For me it was pretty important, because I had embroidery on the bottom and would have had to have the alterations from the waistline instead of the bottom, which is more complicated and thus more $$$.

As far as flip flops versus heels, go with what's best for you.  I wore tennis shoes because it's what I was most comfortable in.  You're going to have those shoes on for a long time (I figure mine were on 12 hours) so you better be comfortable.  I think outside in the grass you'd be ok with heels, if that's what you want, as long as you don't go with a stiletto.

I love to wear heels, but I'm not able to wear them that often. I will keep looking and wait until I find a dress before buying the shoes.

I wore 4 inch gold heels and I was fine. I usually wear heels so it wasn't a shock to my feet. I also wore gel inserts in my shoes which helped, and changed into platform flip flops after the first dance at the reception.

Whatever you are comfortable with

I like the height difference between my FI and I (5inches) - I fit perfectly under his shoulder, so I will be wearing flats.. unless, of course, I opt for a shorter dress - I'm drawn to the tea-length ones!  Then I'll get a pair of awesome heels otherwise, the shoes aren't seen that much in my opinion :P

Good idea. I am a shoe lover so it was hard for me not to buy shoes first :) but I waited until I bought my dress because I actually bought the perfect heel height so I wouldn't have to have the dress taken up at all which can be expensive. I saved money that way (if you're interested in saving money at all). Anyways you will find shoes you like, and multiple pairs. No worries about buying anything right away!

I have heels for the ceremony, but I do have a pair of flip flops for our picnic after.  I think whatever you will be comfortable in is the best!  But, I also know for myself I walk better and have better posture in heels, so I am glad I will have them on for the ceremony.
