Not new but not old

Hey,
I was GApeachOH. Well, I changed my name. I got tired of all of the mail all the time.
Anyways...
We are 2 months and 2 weeks away!!! YAY! But, we are trying to figure out what to do for readings during the ceremony.
I have a list of TONS of verses, but I just cannot decide.
What did you ladies use in your ceremonies?

Re: Not new but not old

  • We used a song instead of a reading, LOVE by Petra (<--- clicky).  My cousin and her husband sang it while he played the guitar.

Welcome  again!  As an Orthodox Christian, I had no choice in what Bible verses were read in my marriage, but there were two readings.  Here they are, along with a description from the Knot explaining why.

The first, Ephesians 5:20-33, reminds us that the love of Christ has for His People, the Church, is the same love a husband and wife must have for one another. The second, John 2:1-12, recounts Christ's first miracle, performed at the marriage feast at Cana in Galilee, at which He changed water into wine. In remembrance of this blessing, wine is given to the bride and groom in a "common cup." This cup signifies a life of harmony in which there is a mutual sharing of joy and sorrow. The drinking of wine from the common cup serves to impress upon the couple that, from that moment, they will share everything in this life as they anticipate the life of the world to come.

    We used 1 John 4: 7-12:

"Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us."

The pastor chose one too and we also had the one about the Cord of 3 Strands before we did the God's Knot.
  • Hmmm..
    Sorry I didn't respond sooner.
I have a LONG list of readings that I have found. It's awful picking one or two. UGH!

    Here are a few:
Gen 2:18-24- basically descibes the relationship between and man and a woman and how man is incomplete without woman.

Deut 24:5- "When a man is newly married, he shall not go out with the army or be liable for any other public duty. He shall be free at home one year  to be happy with his wide whom he has taken."

Eph 5:22-23- This talks about the duties of wives and husbands. (This is a major possibilty)

    Mathew 19:4-6

There are tons more, but I don't have time to write them all out with explanantions.
I will try to do it later.
